Some Newbie Rules Questions

By ultimax, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

HI, my friends & I are new to this game and we've encountered some rules questions while playing which I hope someone can clarify for us.

1. When playing with the "Siege of Winterfell" agenda, am I correct in assuming that the stark player can still gain power via dominance challenges but cannot gain power through undefended challenges?

2. At the taxation phase, do gold on characters such as Tywin Lannnister (core) & Joffrey Baratheon (KoS) go back to treasury? Currently, we are saying that they remain on those characters.

3. When Tyrion Lannister (city of secrets) comes out of the shadows and into play, does he trigger his own effect of gaining +2 Str and a keyword?

4. What is defined as a "triggered effect"? Is it any effect that is printed on the cards as "Response: ..."?

5. We are confused on how the plot card "The King's Law" works. The card states that "at the end of the marshalling phase, discard all cards in the shadows". For example, lets say that at the start of the round that I have 2 cards in the shadows. If this plot card is played, is there no way that I can bring out those 2 cards from the shadows before they get discarded? Since you can only bring cards out of the shadows at the beginning of each phase and since we dont get gold until after the marshalling phase starts, there seems to be no opportunity to play those cards from the shadows (unless they are cost 0) because by the time you get gold in marshalling, it will be too late to play them.

Thanks for the help in advance.

1) The Stark player can move power from opponents' House cards to his own as part of a power challenge, but he cannot claim power for dominance, unopposed, or events that happen not during a military challenge.

2) Gold in your pool goes back to the treasury. Gold on characters or locations does not.

3) Yes.

4) In general, it's any effect with a bold word in front of it, like Response:, or Any Phase:. Essentially it's any effect that you have the option whether to execute or not.

5) That's correct.

1) the Stark player still claims power for unopposed military challenges (but not intringue or power challenges) and any events that happen during a military challenge; power claimed by characters is claimed normally (like renown)

Ah, indeed. Missed that one, thanks.
