First Impressions

By Horsa, in Tannhauser

I am new to this game and in truth I doubt I would have even thought about getting it if it had not been for Miah's excellent information on the game.

My first impressions are very positive. The maps are excellent. Large, clear and very easy to play on. The game pieces are also reasonable and the game has a simplicity which belies the underlying complexity. This is by far one of the best boardgames I have bought.

Once I have played sufficient games, I may have something useful to say.

Once again my thanks to Miah for providing such excellent support for a very neglected game on the internet.

second kudos to Miah for his invaluable contributions!

I agree it is a shame this game isn't as popular as it should be. compared to similar games, Tannhauser has so many configuration possibilities that the replay value is high - important in a combat-centric game i think. add to that fan contributions, it really outshines a game like space hulk - which despite spending hours & hours painting, i rarely play because tannhauser always seems like a more fun option!

I'm really hoping to see a digital version at some point, but one that has a bit of a hands off approach to the rules- just so players can make use of their house rules and the like. I'm trying to get to the point where one of my friends will play it on Skype, but its been a hard sell lol. I know I obsess about this game, but I really can't see why it's not a relative household name. Hell our board game society has multiple copies of Ticket to Ride and Space Hulk, but my group is the only one with a Tannhauser. It boggles my mind.
