Rules question - Hellfire pass Concealed tokens look useless/almost unuseable

By Myles2, in Tide of Iron

Not sure about the Concealed tokens for Hellfire pass.

TOI rule book page: 34 lower right "If at any time a concealed squad is within LOS of an enemy unit and is not located in cover-providing terrain, it is immediately revealed. A smoke marker (which provides +2 cover) will not keep a squad from being revealed; the hex's main terrain type must provide cover (woods, rough, bridge, or building terrain)."

OK - I don't see any cover providing terrain on the level two hill hexes of the German boards 17A, 14A, 20A, so would those level two hexes not be usable for concealed squads? The british tanks on board 16B have LOS to most of the level two hexes upon setup.

What am I missing?

In the FAQ 1.5 p. 2:

Q: Are entrenchments and/or pillboxes considered terrain for the
purpose of placing concealed squads?
A: Yes, entrenchments and pillboxes are considered cover for
the purposes of concealed squads.

So here you are, those entrenchments will provide cover for your concealed squads gui%C3%B1o.gif

Yes, Jdavias is correct. You might want to read over my Hellfire Pass War Journal posting from a couple days back...this posting is basically my after-action report on the mission after playing it. The German concealed squads in Hellfire Pass are brutal. Place concealed German squads in entrenchments, thus blocking LOS to them under the concealed squads rules. You can also place one or two concealed squads behind a level two hill hex, also blocking LOS to them. However, if you do this, once they fire, they are revealed, rendering them somewhat useless until they actually engage in combat, at which point they are no longer concealed. However, note that an AT gun requires a squad to fire it, but a concealed squad firing an AT gun is not revealed. Auchtung! Herein lies the nastiest tactic for the Germans to use in this mission. As the tanks roll across the battlefield, blast away at them with the AT guns. The tanks cannot fire at the guns to destroy them (per the rules specific to this scenario), and they cannot initially suppress the squads operating the AT guns because they cannot see the squads. For the tanks to suppress the AT guns, they have to be almost on top of them, which means a round or two of driving across open desert. Also, if you do like I did and place some concealed German machine gun squads in entrenchments, these machine gunners can remain concealed until tanks and/or infantry are in range, and then...POW, POW, POW, KA-BOOM! Sorry, but it's very exciting. Anyway, Hellfire Pass is a great scenario.
