FAQs

By Spacefargo, in Twilight Imperium 3rd Edition

I have one FAQ 2.2 dated 12/19/ 09 (yea I know 09) and another dated 12/22/08. They are different. We were using the 12/19/09 and it says:

Q: Can You acquire the Objective: “I destroyed x ships in a
Space Battle” by shooting them with PDS or pre-combat abilities?
A: No.

the one dated 12/22/08 says:

Q: Can you acquire the objective: “I destroyed x ships in a
Space Battle” by shooting them with a PDS? What about precombat
abilities?
A: No, PDS fire happens before the Combat step. All precombat
abilities happen during the Space Battle step, and
therefore count toward the objective.

Uh, whats up with that?

I assume the 12/19/09 is junk?

When fulfilling Stage I PO: "I successfully invaded one planet containing at least 1 Ground Force this turn." must there be a GF left after bombardment?

I say yes. Am I correct?

The 12/19/09 one was probably the draft release. After it was posted for community review, several people noticed inconsistencies in some of the rulings. The "precombat abilities" part was one of those inconsistencies (since the ruling in the FAQ regarding things like Direct Hit say that pre-combat DOES count as Space Combat). Note that PDS fire isn't part of the Space Battle step at all, though; it's a separate step in the activation sequence, and that's why PDS fire doesn't count.

Unfortunately, no. Bombardment is part of the Invasion Combat sequence, and thus bombarding would count toward this objective.

Can you have more then 1 of your counters in a system?

A situation that came up:

The evil Naluu took possesion of Mecatol Rex.

During the Strategy phase, the evil Naluu, Played Signal Jamming on Mecatol Rex,

and forced the Jol nar to put a Command counter on Mecatol Rex.

Then the evil Naluu, played Diplomacy II on Mecatol Rex and insisted that the Jol nar had to place another Command counter on Mecatol Rex sorpresa.gif

He said there was nothing in the rules about NOT having 2 Command counters in the same system.

Jol nar then flipped Leadership and wanted 1 of the 2 counters at Mecatol Rex since he was already at 13 counters.

Naluu insisted those counters stay and Jol nar gets only 1 counter for Leadership. demonio.gif

Needless to say, the Naluu was having alot of Fun at Jol nar's expense. llorando.gif

So the question is, If you Signal jam and play Diplomacy in the same system, must you place both counters?

If yes, can you recover 1 counter with Leadership?

My opinion is you may only have 1 command counter per system, but I cannot find where that is mentioned. preocupado.gif

Ýour opinion is the correct one.

With his logic, what he is saying is that if a system is already activated, if I have an extra command counter I can activate it again (Is that mean I can build a second time? perhaps even three times in the same system?... of course not. The rule is straight and its simple, a system can only be activated once by any single player, hence its status is either activated or not activated. There is no situation which allows a player to activate a system a second time, hence its perfectly logic to assume their is no way he can be forced to do the same.

I do however believe he is correct in saying that it does not explicity say that a player cannot be forced by circumstance to activate a system twice, but then again it doesn't say anything explicitly that you can't cheat in the game. I think its a very BIG stretch considering that willingly activating a system a second time is NEVER allowed.

I'll see if I can find something. I'm 99.9% certain you can only have 1 CC in a given system, but I can't remember if that was a ruling from the forums from before, or if it was just a consenual community agreement.
