Options for healing, and rules clarification

By Jerrith, in Black Crusade

First off, a disclaimer and rules question: in previous games there was a general understanding that when first aid (medicae) was applied to a wounded patient, any damage that remained on the patient beyond the healing was considered 'treated' and could only be healed by extended rest/care. However, I don't see that written anywhere in Black Crusade. Is this rule still in effect? For the purposes of the post I'm going to assume it does.

Also, is there a limit to the number of times first aid is applied during a combat? If unhealed wounds after first-aid are 'treated,' the next logical step would be for the doctor to heal as soon as possible, ideally between each hit, so the next hit can be healed separately.

Now, on to my post. There do not seem to be many options for immediate healing. Medicae, via first aid, will only heal one point from heavily or critically wounded patients, and then (if the rule from other games still applies) the rest are considered 'treated wounds' and can only be healed with rest and extended care. Even with Master Chirurgeon, someone brought to -1 critical, for example, would only be healed up to 2 wounds and the rest will require days, or weeks of rest if he is still considered heavily wounded. I understand that this adds to the feel of the setting, but if we are in a pitched assault, for example, and need healing NOW, what other options are there?

In Dark Heresy at least, there were psychic powers that provided healing, but they do not exist in Black Crusade.

Hereteks, at the very least, have Black Blood (autosanguine) and prosanguine. Prosanguine, especially, seems excellent for healing because there appears to be no limit as long as he doesn't roll a 96 or higher on his check.

Hardy seems like a must-buy for everyone, so at least they are always healed for the doctor's intelligence modifier with medicae and heal more quickly with extended rest.

Anything else? Is medicae really as good as it gets for most characters?

I like it. More of a gritty feel. Be carefully who you fight! demonio.gif

More reason to give everyone Black Blood. With Int bonus 6 + 2 cyberbrain, most people will probably be able to healed of 8 wounds per hit.

Spending Infamy Points. One of the uses of Infamy Points is regaining wounds (and removing Critical Damage - not the effects, but the accumulating score), with the amount regained increasing as you gain Corruption. Nurgle-aligned characters always receive maximum wounds back from Infamy Point expenditure, while Khornate characters get back slightly fewer wounds from each point. As characters advance, their Infamy will increase, giving them access to more Infamy Points to spend each session.

That was definitely the most common uses of fate points in the Deathwatch game I am playing.
