Taragaryen/Baratheon Alliance?

By Toblokai, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

Hi there!

Quite new to the game and have a lot to learn yet. And yesterday I played for the first time against someone with an alliance deck (Martell/Lannister), and was beaten badly playing a Baratheon Power Rush deck. Didn't find many topics related to alliance decks here, so any input is welcome, but what I'm specifically curious about is; has anybody experience playing with a Targaryen/Baratheon alliance, and any clues how to most successfully oppose a Martell/Lannister deck? We're lacking quite a bit of Stark and Greyjoy cards yet, so I imagine those wouldn't be of as much help.

Cheers

I havent heard of anyone using that combo yet. I have heard of:

Bara/Martell
Greyjoy/Lannister
Stark/Lannister
Targ/Stark

Typically you match two houses together because they share a strength. In Targ/Bara's case, it would be that they are both solid in power challenges. I would suggest trying to use targ as the main house and using events like royal favor and true power in combination with the renown machine that is bara.

What strategies was the Alliance deck that beat you using?

He played with Martell as the main deck, and over half his character cards were army-based. Almost from the beginning he could draw 4 cards a round, and he ended up with a duplicated Red Viper with Thirst for Blood and Devious Intentions, as well as a Gilded Plate. Meaning as soon as Red Viper had assembled a fair share of power on him, that character had 9-10 strength in all icons. And he had Areo Hotah to make my attacks a nightmare, hehe.

I had hoped to steal the Red Viper from him with Fury of the Stag, but essentially I didn't have enough strength. If only I had played Fury of the Stag when he played Focused Offense!

Anyway I will attempt a Targaryen/Baratheon deck, and might report back as to what the deck consisted of and if it worked.

I was recently considering this idea myself after playing against Fieras' Treaty deck over the weekend. Dragons are unfortunately kinda stingy, they don't really like to share deck space with any other themes, there probably isn't enough room. The first thing that came to mind of course being noble focus. Bara is drowning in them, and Targ has a few - notably the Khal Drogo that kills people after challenges. Targ is also the only house can can apply a constant noble crest via attachment. Could do something there. An Aegon's Hill with the attachment that gives a location Vigilant deck and Rhaenys Hill to close? Hmm... might have to go build that. Some kind of attachment supperiority deck? Targ is the primary attachment tech House but Bara is secondary with things like Prosperity and Plenty and a couple other effects. Not sure where you'd go for that but I always liked Voltron decks meta permiting. My be too delicate but then again maybe not. I rarely had issues keeping my stacked maesters alive at the last tourney. Armies? Asshai? Every Asshai character in the game that is not Bara is a Targ. Red Warlock is real nice with summer and he has a learned crest for learned tech. There - Summer Asshai Attachment deck? There are a number of ways you could go, the real question is can you make it work in the face of your opponent's extra draw/gold? Is the benefit worth the drawback?
