Legality of the older cards

By bard8, in CoC Rules Discussion

Is one allowed to use the black bordered versions of cards that were reprinted in the Core, when playing in the League (or other possible future formats)?

And if so, I assume the black border versions are played as though they were the newest versions i.e. Old black-border Anthropology Advisor has CAI?

thats what id assume. i plan on including 1 black border per playset in a deck just for fun, at least of my favorite cards.

I don't know about tournament play, but the League states that decks are built using the basic set and (at the start of the league) cards from two Asylum Packs. Here is the quote from the news posting:

"The league will run for six weeks using the limited card format, which means players start with cards from the Core Set (CT18) along with two Asylum Packs, one of which is determined by the league organizer, the other by the player. Additional Asylum Packs are added to each player’s card pool throughout the course of the league."

I've actually been trying to figure this one out myself. Are the old and new games treated as completely different incompatable games? I have a ton of old CoC Collectible Card Game cards. If I show up to play with a group of people who play the Living Card Game, is it safe to assume that my cards are obsolete?

The old cards are fully compatible with the LCG cards (assuming you're using sleeves). For tournaments the default assumption, however, will be that only LCG cards are allowed, unless the organizer specifically mentions they're allowed. I strongly doubt you'll ever see an official tournament allowing them, though.

For casual play, you can do whatever you and your fellow players agree on.

Being a TO myself, I tend to allow my players to use old black-board cards when playing leagues or tournaments (but they have to apply the modification from the LCG, so Anthro Advisor has CAI !!)

3 reasons :

- I don't want to see the players who spend huge money in the CCG leaving the game because they have to buy reprints...

- French editions are out after the american ones, so reprints can be incorporated instantly in the pool.

- Considering it's just a fashion problem (well, the boarder are not from the same color, but sleeves are an obligation in French Tournament), I think that you must allow your player to use the cards the way they want !!
