They watched the heroes of a hundred songs ride forth, each more fabulous than the last. The seven knights of the Kingsguard took the field, all but Jaime Lannister in scaled armor the color of milk, their cloaks as white as freshfallen snow. Ser Jaime wore the white cloak as well, but beneath it he was shining gold from head to foot, with a lion’s head helm and a golden sword. Ser Gregor Clegane, the Mountain That Rides, thundered past them like an avalanche.

Fantasy Flight Games is proud to announce Where Loyalty Lies, the fourth Chapter Pack in the A Tale of Champions cycle for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game.
With powerful new unique characters and events for the Great Houses of Westeros, the 60 cards (3 copies each of 20 different cards) in Where Loyalty Lies offer tremendous deck-building options and pushes the development of the cycle’s new Joust and Melee keywords.
Fans of House Lannister and their machinations should be particularly pleased by the new characters raising their banners for their favorite House.
The Mountain That Rides
Where Loyalty Lies features 12 unique characters, including new versions of existing characters and exciting new characters like The Mountain that Rides, Ser Gregor Clegane (Where Loyalty Lies, 63). A Knight from House Clegane, Ser Gregor Clegane stands among the most wicked–and intimidating–figures from George R. R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire.
Though he doesn’t have the Intimidate keyword, Ser Gregor Clegane may still cause House Lannister’s opponents to tremble with his Joust keyword. As previously noted in the article, Sing a Song of Champions, Part Two, when a character with the Joust keyword is attacking alone, the defending opponent cannot declare more than one character as a defender. Ser Gregor Clegane can easily ride down most combatants with his four Strength, and his War crest makes him even more fearsome in a deck running two copies of The Power of Arms (Core Set, S200), especially since any characters sacrificed to satisfy its two claim cannot be saved from Ser Gregor’s wrath.
Given his Devious Intentions (The Battle of Ruby Ford, 94), Ser Gregor Clegane is truly The Mountain That Rides, thundering across the battlefield, and felling foes one or two at a stride.
Words to action
Still, while it may prove fruitless to stand against Ser Gregor Clegane, there are some Knights who aspire to the values they’re sworn to uphold. A new plot, You Swore an Oath (Where Loyalty Lies, 80), challenges Knights to live up to their vows.
If Beric Dondarrion (Ilyrio’s Gift, 17) falls to The Mountain, it won’t be the first time. However, the lightning lord doesn’t die easily, and with You Swore an Oath and support from the new Brotherhood character, Ghost of High Heart (Where Loyalty Lies, 77), Beric Dondarrion needs only a minor boost to his strength to stand fast against Ser Gregor Clegane and live to counterattack.
Of course, it’s not unlike House Lannister to play on both sides of an intrigue, and Beric Dondarrion, armed with Devious Intentions of his own, might serve them well as a stalwart defender if they can get him to swear an oath to their House.
Look for Ser Gregor Clegane, You Swore an Oath, Ghost of High Heart, and other exciting new cards when Where Loyalty Lies is released in the First Quarter of 2012!
