Calicon 2011 Results

By Fieras, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

I wanna get this out there while it's still fresh in my mind. I played 5 melee and 8 joust games over the weekend as well as a couple draft games, so it could get fuzzy if I wait.

I will follow up with an actual tournament report of the games played later today. If anyone has the house breakdown, that would be great.

Calicon had people from Chico, Sacramento, Bay Area, Santa Cruz, LA, and San Diego.

• 28 for the melee
• 24 for the joust
• 13 for the draft

Joust results:

Jeff Lebow (7) (Bara Maesters) def. John Deatrick (4) (Bara Treaty to the South) in the Final.

Jeff Lebow (7) def. Ram DeLeon (3) (Lanny SHADOWS (edited))
John (4) def. Joey Kreins (1) (GJ Maesters Choke)

Joey (1) def. Angela (8) (Targ KOTHH Dragons)
Ram (3) def. Josh (6) (Stark Siege)
Jeff (7) def. Brooks Mitchell (2) (GJ/Lanny Alliance)
John (4) def. John Bruno (5) (GJ Winter)

Yes. Thats right. Not a single Martell in the top 8 of the joust. 2 Bara, 3 GJ, 1 Targ, 1 Stark, 1 Lanny.
Joey went undefeated in the swiss again, Brooks, myself, and Ram were 4-1 and the rest were 3-2 in swiss.

Melee Results:

1. John Deatrick (Lannister Brotherhood)
2. John Bruno (Targ Burn)
3. Ross (Targ Heir Dragons)
4. Lucas Sydlaske (Bara Knights)

Going into the final table, John Bruno had 35 points, Ross had 33, and Lucas and I were tied with 30. Joey Kreins and Alex Esposito barely missed the cut with 28.

Draft Results:

Jeff Lebow (GJ) beat out Lucas Sydlaske (Lanny) in the final, giving Jeff 2 tournament wins for the weekend.

Could someone perhaps share a bit of details on that KOHH Dragons deck ?

Thanks for the summary, Fieras. Congrats on your success! I wish I could have attended this year, but I'm glad to see at least some of the SoCal guys did well. Hopefully some of the NorCal gang can make it down for Kingdom Con in April next year!

Oh, and who won the famous Maester's Challenge? :)

Also, odd to see more folks in melee than joust again. Was this thanks to our friends from the Chico meta? Or were people attending NFL games up there as well? lengua.gif

Scheduling issues, mostly. Jon Machado and a couple others just couldn't stay to play on Sunday I think.

I believe John Deatrick won the Maester's Challenge.

Choosing to attend a Chargers game instead of CaliCon is like choosing to eat a McDonalds cheeseburger instead of a meal cooked by an Iron Chef

BTW Ram played Lanni Shadows. It was not Lanni Hyperkneel

Meh, does a Shadows Lannister kneel deck not count as hyperkneel just because it has a shadow agenda? (Actually I guess technically it's not huh?)

But let me tell you having played that deck twice a lot of my characters and worse a lot of my locations were getting knelt. And when they weren't... they were being forced NOT to kneel. Probably the only reason I won that 2nd game was because I lucked out on post setup redraw putting a Salador Saan in my hand and played him 2nd turn to destroy the first Black Cells on the board.

Like John said in his other thread, this was my first tournament - and I had a great time! I really enjoyed meeting everyone! I even liked the melee, which worried me a fair amount beforehand since I only learned how to play it last Wednesday. :)

Thanks everyone for being so welcoming, and thanks Joey+co. for organizing it all!

(I'm Angela. :) )

Any wonder how close it was to his deck at GenCon? Any idea?

I didn't get to play him at either event, so I am not sure. Ram keeps eluding me.

Pretty sure it was very close.

Well you're off to a good start, you've got him on the run.

Congrats to everyone! ~Except Chaos (Dan) who I heard was more intersted in making googly-eyes at some new gal-pal of his gui%C3%B1o.gif

Seriously though, a lot of good players. And more importantly, a lot of fun players. Good job Jeff!
