First Deathwatch Session

By KnightErrantJR, in Deathwatch

Last Thursday was my first Deathwatch session, and I have to say I had a lot of fun. I'm still not 100% solid on all of the rules, but I am really enjoying the game thus far.

I'm not sure that Solo Mode/Squad Mode couldn't have been simplified a bit, and for a book as large as the Deathwatch rulebook is, I'm surprised at how isolated some of the rules are (i.e. there isn't much hint as to what a given rule does outside of the specific section of the book that details that rule), but neither one of those complaints was enough to scare me off.

As someone that has been gaming for decades, and has been on the periphery of the 40K universe without really getting involved, I have to say that Fantasy Flight did a wonderful job encapsulating the setting in such a way that it was very compelling for someone that had only ever see the setting "from the outside," with a little bit of dabbling in the Dawn of War computer game.

Very interested in checking out the other 40K RPGs now, and fighting really hard not to pick up Space Wolves minis just for the sake of assembling and painting some members of my character's home chapter.

Welcome to the Vigil, Battle-Brother!

You may want to consider buying Black Crusade next - not only is it good for creating Chaotic antagonists, but it contains the biggest rules update since 40k RPG came into being.

I've been tempted. The GM of our group has been talking about potentially running a Black Crusade game, so I've already been trying to get my head wrapped around a Chaos character, so it's probably only a matter of waiting for the wallet to heal from my initial investment in Deathwatch and Rites of Battle.

We've had some fun with Black Crusade; we've made it the game where we ARE the evil A-holes instead of the guys stopping them.
