WFRP3 release schedule

By Halvgrim, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

It looks like Fantasy flight games have started to publish at a slower pace. How does everyone feel about that?

I am personally happy about it. In my group we have only bought half of the Warhammer material that FFG has been published so far. It is not easy to keep up with the pace of publishing.

I hope that they will manage to keep the game alive despite having fewer releases each year.

I am not sure what I'm waiting for. Every expansion adds more and more cards to decks that are too big to begin with already. I actually hope they would publish new Guides with updated rules and clearer distinction. The cards and pieces should be published as print-on-demand boosters or something.

I dunno about decks being too big per se. There's difinitely some gaps in certain areas. (Come oooooooooon lure of power.) I guess you'd be right about tokens etc. I'm interested to see how big hero's call will actually be by comparison to other supplements. Are we headed into a quality over quantity situation?

oh god i hope they don't publish new guides. market entry is confusing enough for new players. the consolidated guides were a disaster, the instant they are published they become obsolete with the inevitable errors within them, this is compounded by the knowledge that within a quarter there will be a new supplement that is not included in the guide, thus making them incomplete.

as for the OP, is it slowing down? they aren't announcing product for the entire coming year, but does that mean it's slowing down?

Hmm.. perhaps you are right. My math is flawed.

Having recounted the months I admit that FFG sticks to their schedule of announcing a new product every 3 months :-)

He's not wrong about this. Are they going to update the player's guide? Won't they have to persistantly update it to keep track of everything, this is something that really stopped me from getting them, nice as they appeared.

I absolutely love the guides - great quality and binding, easily understood explanations and examples of mechanics, and they look great on the shelf next to the 40k RPG line. They were certainly a release that contributed to my further financial support of the product line.

The confusion as to the entry point is unfortunate, much like the Essentials line over at the other publisher. We are seemingly at a point where production of the core set seems less important, and it's discontinuation may even clear up any misconceptions potential customers may have had concerning as to exactly how many people can play the game.

My hope is for new dice - perhaps even a licensing agreement with Chessex would be fine. With the new Slaanesh product coming out some transparent purple dice would feel right at home with me.

Agree.

The Boxed set is THE best place to start, but once you start buying all the supplements, the guides make life easier, and are a pleasure to use, IMHO. I no longer really need the books from the core.

for the guide enthusiasts, i'm curious, how do you see the guide format working going forward?

new guides that render the old ones obsolete e.g. the players guide v2 has all v1 content corrected plus player content from black fire pass, omens of war, lure of power, heroes call.

or

simply a new guide that only has the content from black fire pass, omens of war, lure of power, heroes call.

I realize this is wishful thinking, but, it would be nice if once a print run of a guide, such as the Player's Guide, was finished, they would update the next printing of the guide with errata, the new actions, talents, etc that had been produced.

This would create confusion in the used market but for those that like to have an up to date list this would be nice. Plus, a new player would be safe buying the latest edition of the book.

I know, wishful thinking. But, still. It would be nice.

Well I think the guides are a done deal, here on out additions are in the decks and supplement books. Which is fine with me, the players guide really offers more than enough for new players, and once they are up to speed, they can hunt through the decks and books for further options. I don't really feel anything is rendered obsolete, its the nature of the printed word to be fixed. I wouldn't want an amended players guide, as it would realy compound confusion.

But a further compendium of stuff released after the guides, I'd buy that if it came out some time down the track. Do I need it? nope. Do rules lite groups need it? dunno, I'm not a rules lite player.

Actually I just wish they wouldn't change the monster layout every freaking time when a new product is published...

What do you mean by "monster layout"? Because if I count correctly, I have 16 products (okay, not counting the extra dice set), and I only experienced one change in what I would call monster layout. The one from the two-page stats to the cards. And since that was an improvement, I can't complain.
