Ascending from Assassin to Desperado?

By Dhobbry, in Dark Heresy

Hello everyone!

I'm currently playing a rank 5 assassin. And since we've started, I've come to (sort of) regret that the character wasn't a more social one, specifically scum. I enjoy playing schemers too much, and I'm afraid the assassin is not the best choice. But, there's no turning back now and I have to make the best of it.

Eventually, Emperor willing, the character is going to ascend. And know that once I choose the Vindicare transfer package, the character will be even less sociable.

So now I'm wondering... how viable is it for an assassin to ascend to Desperado? Is it worth it to pay XP through the nose just to increase Fellowship to a satisfactory level of competence? I'm talking thousands of XP. Or should I accept the fact that the character will eventually become an empty killing machine (also an inviting concept, but not as inviting as a criminal mastermind)? What do you think?

I've never played an Ascended game, but intuitively It seems that even with a Fellowship of say 30-35, Charm +20 and a Peer combined with an influence talent is not going to be anything to laugh at.

Speak to your GM, see if he'll let you change your character profession. Let him know that you really regret picking an assassin and see if he'll work something out for you to drift more toward a Scum type character - or change professions entirely. If your GM is at all reasonable he should be willing to let you do something to improve your enjoyment of the game.

In my opinion it is absolutely viable and I plan to propose it to my Assassin player when they hit Ascension (atm Rank 6). One reason is because he is often quite sociable (at least he tries to...) and mostly Dual Wields his Fate Bringers as well as because the Vindicare seems broken rules- and backgroundwise.

I think having a more socially oriented assassin (going for the Palatine path, most likely) become a desperado is certainly possible. It's not the usual choice, perhaps, but I'd say ultimately the border between the two classes - assassin and scum - is somewhat fluid anyway.

Going Assassin --> Desperado is viable. Especially if you dont wasnt to become one of the (nearly) insane Death Cultists, or have the luck to become the choosen one out of thousands of Billions to become a Vindicare.

And to the costs, you also have to keep in mind that in Ascension you get more XP each session, so the relative costs of these "expensive" stat raises goes down noticeably.

Wait there something wrong with a sociopathy/psychopathy team member?

1 who is treated as a Living Weapon by his Team.

But at least mine, has a Priest to tell him that he is the Emperor's Scalpel

Yes, when they decide they no longer want to play team member.
