Gaining Vs Buying items

By Night7, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hi Everyone,

This questions came up last night game, is "gaining" and item the same as "buying" an item at the time to activete special abilities?

For example the dark pharaoh makes an investigator lose one sanity every time they gain a unique item, this still counts if I go the the shop and buy one?

Thanks and sorry for what I believe to be a very stupid question :-P

Regards,

Ignacio

Yes, you gain an item regardless if it's bought or found through other means.

What about trading between investigators? Is this considered a gain? I've recieved conflicting answers over at the geek. Thanks.

That's because there are different relevant situations.

For the most part, this is NOT a gain. Specifically, personal stories that require you to "gain" some number of X item do not activate when X is given by another investigator. But, I think the Dark Pharaoh's ability activates when UIs and EIs are traded.

There is no easy answer.

Was that clarified somewhere? Last I knew, it was.

Yeah I thought so too... But I don't remember where the ruling was...
