Returning from other worlds and location encounters

By Night7, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hi,

Quick question:

Let say I return to arkham after exploring other world, just to simplify let say there are no monsters in the location. Instend of closing the gate, can I have an location encounter there (drawing a location card or using the location especial ability), in that turn or any after it? How about re entering the gate if I wish to do so? is this possible?

Thanks in advance for the response,

Best Regards,

Ignacio

If you do not close the gate, you simple wait, and do not draw an encounter. If you go through the portal, I believe you lose the 'explored' marker and have to go through the other worlds again to regain it.

You know...my initial reaction was to say that you can't go through a gate, even willingly, if you have an Explored marker, but looking at the rules, I'm not sure. Anyone know the official line, if there is one?

You definitely can't have encounters.

It's been a while since I've read the manual (I've been playing this a loooong time and don't usually need to check it) and that's a situation that's never come up in one of my games (I'm not really sure why it'd ever be done, unless you're Luke). If I remember correctly, the manual says something like you're drawn into the other world during the Arkham Encounters phase, unless you have an explored marker. It's something that happens to you, you don't have a choice in the matter (I think, look it up to double check). Anyway... Even if you did have an explored marker, it's pretty easy to lose it just by moving to the street and going back (provided there are no monsters there).

I have no problem losing the explorer marker, and I only need 2 movement point to exit and re enter a location to explore the same portal again, so it no that big of a deal. But it would be great to know if there is an oficial answer about re entering the same portal you just exited.

I thought about other questions:

It is possible to chose not to move in other world? In arkham I can stay in a location if I wish so, but can I do the same and stay on one of the other world locations and keep having encounters there?

THX!

I believe that, by the letter of the rules, you are not allowed to stay still in an Other World. Of course, you probably wouldn't want to.

Usually no, but let say I’m one clue token away to have enough to seal the gate, I may want to stay there in hope to get an encounter that gives me clue token.

So? Officially I can not stay in other world the same way I can stay in a location on Arkham? Could you please point me to the where in the rules is this so if one of my friend says something I can push the rules down his throat :-P

Page 6, talking about Arkham Movement gives you the option of moving (may spend movement points), but page 8 and OW Movement has no option, just says to move the investigator from area 1 to area 2 or from area 2 back to Arkham.

While the player might want to hang around in the OWs, hoping for a Clue, investigator probably wants to get the hell out of there and back to the world he knows.

Exactly, Arkham Horror is always trying to make you waste time by making you lose clue tokens when you least expect it. So in the other worlds, you move from one part to the other and then come back.
