Wow, career ranks 4+
woop! woop!
From the announcement.
• 12 new high-powered careers
• 12 regional options for men and dwarfs from outside Reikland
• Two new player races
• Action cards for each new trait
• New spells and blessings for Ranks 4 and 5.
First Quarter of 2012. **** good way to start the year.
TWO new... **** you Weasel. You beat me to it! ![]()
Speculation on races:
Halfling (seems obvoius), ogre, lizardman
Loving that instead of a second challenge dice on Caress of Laniph it has a Crossed Swords and a Bane, thats some clever stuff.
Guesses:
Races: Halflings, Ogres?
12 new careers, Rank 4+5 Priest, Rank 4+5 Wizards, Daemonslayer, Runepriest level 3, Engineer level 3, high end options for Martial and Social characters?
12 regional options for men and dwarfs from outside Reikland:
6-9other regions in Empire, Marienburg, Tilean, Estalian, maybe Kislevite or Norse; dwarfs: world's edge, black gulf, Grey mtns.
• Two new player races -- I'm guessing Halfling and Ogre
jh
Ogres playable? I don't know, but what else could it be?
Also very interested in the different abilities for the other human regions.
MOAR INFORMATIONS!!!!

Ogres? For a playable race? I really don't see that happening. Even lizardmen are more likely in my opinion. Or another version of dwarfs.

Weren't they playable in 1st/2nd edition (in expansion materials, not straight out of the core rules)?

Yes. Andrew Law (aka. Andy Law) wrote 15 pages about playing Imperial Ogres. He was one of the writers and illustrators of WFRP2 BUT the supplement was published as a "fan-material" on Black Industries's web site. So it strictly was not canonical.
After consideration it is quite difficult to think of another "race" as a playable race. Ogres could work well with epic levels rather than halflings. Still those two have been linked in numerous materials so they could very well be tag-buddies. My money goes for Bretonnia being another "race" as compared to High and wood elves.
Would make sense. This would mean, that the 12 regional options for men and dwarfs from outside Reikland would be the missing 9 regions from the empire and 3 other places for the dwarfs.
But this would also mean no Tilean, Estalian, Kislevit etc. If Bretonnia is an another race, also they would be.
I logged in and saw a new Warhammer news posting and assumed that it was another look at the Slaanesh supplement. Imagine my surprise when I open the link to find Hero's Call!
Admittedly, I just started a campaign so it's going to be quite a while before my players ever even get that far but I'm really looking forward to what this set has in store for us!
On the *other* new race, my bet would be on Bretonnians being treated as a "race" as I can likely see some careers (Grail Knights) and possible Actions that would carry the "Bret" trait but otherwise the only other thing I can think of would be Ogres. There aren't really any other human-friendly/tolerated races out there and even Ogres is a pretty big stretch. Honestly, the "new races" will probably be the least-used element of Hero's Call at my table.
Yeah, but surely Brettonia, with all it's various fluff, deserves a supplement all it's own, maybe?
I'd say it'll be the different provinces for 'oomies, then different holds for dwarves.
Ooooooh, the race speculation begins!!!! I dearly hope halflings are in there, the second is a bit more difficult. My gut (ha) tells me it's ogres. But maybe there's some race or force that interacts in Imperial society that we just haven't heard of?
Also, a big thanks to FFG, because hey, we've been whining about it for long enough, this, at least, shows you care!
Well this was a pleasant surprise.
I doubt my characters will ever get to this rank, but I'll be picking it up never the less.
I am powerless to resist the Lure of More Cards.
This supplement seems a little oddly focused to me. On the one hand, you have high level magic and some high level careers, and on the other you have the more basic options of a couple of new races and regional variations (the latter being something I personally don't see the need for at all). I suppose it all comes under 'character options', but it doesn't quite gel for me. That said, there's not that much detail here, so it might all come together when there is more information.
The example spell doesn't quite seem right. It's using WP rather than To to resist damage, which suggests it's a mental or perhaps spiritual form of attack... and yet two Boons allows you to ignore armour's soak value, which suggests it's physical.
Cheers

For the 2 races, I would bet (and hope) High Elves and Halflings. High Elf magic + High Power go well together.

Don't we have High Elves already?
My guess for the races are Halflings and if they want to get crazy with the cheese wiz...vampires.
<grognard>
Fimir and Zoats.

for the second race, i support the vampires idea. Maybe we will hear more about them in the Slaneesh expansion. But if vampires are not there, maybe gnomes will be the one. I believe they are mentioned in the fluff.
I really doubt ogres will be in, though.

Fimirs as a playable race! That would be AWESOME! Somehow I doubt it though...
I could be wrong but I thought GW did away with Gnomes several years ago. I thought they had joined Fimir and Zoats in the Halls of Obscurity. The decision didn't bother me, really. As much fun as I had playing a Gnome in D&D, it's just too hard to take them seriously, especially in a setting the likes of Warhammer.
Letting players be vampires? Hmmm...
Well, I really hope Halflings are 1 of the new races, I may have to get this game finally if they are.
Wow, I am excited about this. In the last months it seemed to me, that FFG does not put much effort in this game anymore, but now we have the updated errata and a higher rank supplement with new races, creatures and stuff. Two things the fans were asking the year over. It's good to see, that they care, and maybe they are even going to fix the Creature Action Cards confusion sometime soon. My hope is rekindled.
