rules v2 in french

By SgtGorilla2, in Tannhauser

Hello

I come here, because i really don't understand why FFG put so much time to send the complete rules v2 to Edge for the french gamers !?!?!

There're lots of people who's waiting this rule to invest their money in this game. And they don't understand why ti's to long. Especially since the game is originally french.

This is even more incomprehensible to them.

Thanks and excuse my american !

As I understand it it is more EDGE's fault than FFG's, but I may be misunderstaning the situation, language barrier and all.

Have you been to the Black Sheep Archives fourm? blacksheeparchives.net/

I'm not sure if this is a related issue or not, but here's a quote from EDGE,

"Pour le moment, hormis les petites sorties de figurines, il n'y a rien à traduire... vous avez le jeu de base et les extensions en FR. En ce qui concerne les petites figurines pour le moment, il n'est pas prévu de les traduire en français."

The english gist is they have no plans to translate any thing new because you don't need it, I think.

Well what Edge actually said, is that they don't plan to translate small expansion, that is the Single/Troop Packs. From what I understand that this is the way they work with most boardgames, for example they didn't translate the character packs for WoW: The Adventure Game.

What they had planned in 2010 was to translate the Revised Rulebook and bigger expansions , aka Map packs like Daedalus or Operation Hinansho. However since the orginal announcement, what they keep saying is that FFG hasn't sent them the propoer files and that while the text is translated, they can't complete the process.

While a short delay due to misplaced files may be understandable, what we're discussing here is a 15 month delay and still the same excuse while other FFG products continue to get translated by Edge without problems. Well, the products was even never on their shcedule...

IMHO I think that Edge is not sure of wanting to produce the French version of the game. In fact I could understand their hesitation.

New players: They have some stocks leftover boxes from the previous editon, so they will have "give for free" revised manuals for those who buy these, and while FFG can certainly do that, I'm not sure Edge is ready for it.

Old players: While some players will welcome the new edition, keep in mind that most of the former players have still a sour taste in mouth concerning the Tannhauser buyout. For example most of the BSA members still play Classic Edition and are totally opposed to the new edition, just because they think its less tactical than before.

Daedalus complex: The original Daedalus Map Expansion is very different from what FFG released earlier that year. While tokens and scenarios could make it in an "upgrade pack" the second map won't. So their option is either not to upgrade this expansion or re-realising it but then what to with all the leftover ?

Single Pack distribution: While they will not make a specific French product run for the single packs, French players may be abale to buy them in English and whould the Revised Edition be released one day, Anarkia on the Edge forum said they might at least post an official booklet translation. But still no translated Equipment cards for us.

Another issue is the Revised Rules are getting a minor revision before reprint.

We have nothing now.

Plague like v1 but on many forums, many players are waiting for the v2 rules. At least the v2 book in french. In PDF or printed for x euros.

If someone of FFG could answer. It would be nice.

They (FFG) probably won't answer here on the fourm, try the contact us link at the bottom of the page, and maybe you'll get an answer.

I asked FFG twice this summer about the same subject but I didn't get any answer...

I really think they don't care so long as your not trying to profit off their IP, but who knows if they don't say.
