Black Friday VII: NYs Biggest Game of Thrones LCG Event, Nov 25

By Twn2dn, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

@Wolfgang: Lol, maybe I'll come up with something tongue and cheek like I did with the Sansa prize. It might even involve some lines from Littlefinger or House Frey gran_risa.gif

I'm getting excited for next week's tourney. I'll send out a reminder email blast to all the participants with logistical info (timing, other reminders, etc.). So please send an email to the Night's Watch NYC email address if you're planning to attend but haven't yet emailed.

Ti shirt issue: even if 99% i will not attend the tourney, i will come to meet you all so I would ask if I can have a t shirt to celebrate the moment ;-)

thx in advance

Yeah Gualdo - we really wnat you to play! We are using your presence in our marketing efforts!

And Staton: we are not amused.

I thik we should award prizes to anyone NOT playing a maester deck - becuase they're freaking everywhere.

Don't worry, some free game will be there for sure ;-) It depends how I came out from 130 players tourney in stahleck... :-)

I'm not testing from june italian national so I hope to have fun in germany anyway... if not i will come just to root all stark players and "booooo" al maester ones ;-)

I will no longer be making it down, unfortunately I'm out of town the weekend before (sadface).

I'll have you know I was going to run a hyper stealth wilding aggro deck. With the 3x carrion birds and 3x Free Man, and bara's beauty for KoF and Bobbert with smugglers coves it was looking pretty nice. I was going to troll with the zealot for attachment removal and the use of Raven's Message to do some mass kneeling with The Stormlands. Its a shame it will never come to be :'(

That's a shame. I was planning on running Wildlings until VERY recentyl and i think you oculd ahve done soem damage. Hopefully we'll see you in 2012!

I may still make it but most of the other Players from Ottawa that i play with like to play two events or if they had to chose melee....its weird i know....Orignaly we had though it was a two day event with melee and joust.

Would kill for a NYC Melee event

We put one together with the brooklyn Wargamer's club at the Strategist in December 2009 - it had a nice turnout.

You know I'm a faa - but not as a competitive format. i'd go to a casual meetup though, if one was in the offing.

I think we may consider making the summer tourney we had this past July a melee. As a joust it was fun, but given that regionals are before, and GenCon right after, it's something we could do. (Chris, what do you think?)

Also, by that time most of the Tale of Champions block should be out, so there will be some very fun melee cards.

~So how many are playing GJ/Winter and how many are gonna play anti-GJ/Winter?

If anyone needs me to pick up the first pack for them in advance, let me know. It's ~$15 at the local store...but we're playing at a cafe about 15 min walk away, so you won't be able to buy it on-site.

Just to confirm that i'm in for the tourney!!!

Go Gualdo!

[Too short to post, so I'll just repeat]

Go Gualdo!

My girlfriend will be not so happy but... let's say... she wanted to see Egyptian museum so... I can say to her that "I'm going to the toilet" and will come back after 7 hours :-)

Hooray!

[gathering all copies of Meera for signing]

Excellent, Gualdo!

Just send your girlfriend to a Broadway show :P ...that's like 3 blocks from where we'll be playing.

Oh awesome. NOW I wish I hadn't told you what I was going to play, Gualdo! But at least I didn't give away too much... :) You're the man.

I'll be arriving probably around 4 PM, I'd guess, due to traffic (since I'm traveling tomorrow, it should be nuts). I'll be at the Best Western here:

8315 4th Avenue
Brooklyn , New York
11209

Anyone who wants to start getting pick-up games, hit me up. You can find my email addy in the OCTGN players spreadsheet that Erick recently sent, and I'll shoot you my number from there. There's a chance that I'll be buying a bunch of beer, too, if there are any stores open nearby! ;)

I have finished to prepare my baggage... see you next days!!! Go Wolves!!! (so i'm tie with wolfgang spoilering what i'm playing ;-))

Oh, I'm a dork - forgot that today wasn't Wednesday. I'm getting in on Thanksgiving day!

By the way, I'll be taking a train from Penn Station, I believe it is. Is that the blue line I should take out there?

This is basically my backyard. From Penn Station, you will need to transfer trains twice, but this is really easy. It will take you about an hour....possibly a little longer.

If you get lost or have questions, just remember your final destination is the 86th Street station, which is on the "R" line. This is a yellow line, but unlike DC (or other cities?), NYC has colors, numbers, and letters. It sounds complicated, but it's not too bad...mostly just arbitrary numbering. (For example, there is a 1, 2, and 3, but there isn't a "4" line...I think it goes back to how the original lines were created by different companies.)

Anyway, here's what you should do:

1. Get off the train at Penn Station. This will be a large building, and you DO NOT need to leave the building to take the subway. Follow signs for the subway...you want the direction of "downtown/Brooklyn" rather than "uptown."

2. Board the subway. Any line you choose will be OK...the options are "A", "C", and "E"...they're all blue-line, but some are Express, meaning they're faster b/c they skip some stations. Because you're going to transfer, it really doesn't matter which line you're on.

3. Get off at West 4th Street ("W4"). This will 3-4 stops, depending on whether or not you boarded an "express" train at Penn Station.

4. Transfer to the "D" line...this is an orange line, but it is the only one you want to get on. DO NOT board the B, F, or M lines. The "D" line is express, and will take you across the river and deep into Brooklyn. The "D" train will stop only 3-4 times before you need to get off, but you will be passing train stations that you can ignore.

5. Get off the train at 36th Street, and TRANSFER to the "R" line. This is very easy...unlike transferring at West 4th Street, you don't need to walk far...just about 8 feet across the platform (from the "express" side to the "local" side of the tracks). Then just take the "R" train headed in the same direction.

6. Take the "R" train 6 stops to 86th street...this is only 2 stops past my stop, so I'm very familiar with it (it's easy).

7. When you come up from the subway, there will be A LOT of Chinese people in the area. This area of Brooklyn is host to a large Chinese community, so there will be tons of restaurants open on Thanksgiving.

If you have any questions at any point, just call. My number is on that OCTGN list (I think), but you can also email the NYC Night's Watch for it. You won't have cell phone reception in the subway (except for when you're outside, crossing the river on the "D" line), but people are pretty friendly, so just ask around.

Also, if you're looking for a good Android map (not sure about iPhone) for the subway, I recommend NYCMate. It's free, and has a pretty comprehensive schedule.
