building armies

By Dieter2, in Dust Tactics General Discussion

I would like to hear some feedback from the more experienced, as well as tournament players to see how they build their armies and what thoughts go into their decisions.

E.g. do you look only at the scenario, or do you also take into consideration what your opponent has chosen for their army build, if they are axis or allies, etc.

What are some of the more successful armies that seem to dominate tournaments?
By the same token, what mistakes should one avoid when building armies, for example simply don't use the snipers, etc.

thanks for the input.

Pro tips

  1. Having more squads then you opponent is a big advantage.
  2. Snipers are a great unit, they can reduce the effectiveness of enemy squad. ie. use them to take out a squads heavy weapon.
  3. No army really requires anything just find the units that work best for the scenario your going to play and go with it.

thank you for the reply. The article you mention actually inspired me for this post.

It would be great to see what other people are using as guidelines to build their armies.

For example:
- 2-3 teams with artillery strike ability per 1 artillery, to allow for redundancy
- have 1 hero per squad, whenever possible, or just pick 1 hero that makes sense for that scenario
- maximize quantity over quality of units, basically to overwhelm them by sheer numbers (like a russian or chinese wave of troops)
- do not add any close-quarter specialists such as the hammers, gorillas or zombies unless the scenario is mostly in buildings

I just started playing and I'm working out some of the kinks in my strategy. To benefit from the experience of some of the more seasoned members of this forum would be greatly appreciated.
