Psychic powers and Techniques

By Deepstriker, in Deathwatch

Hi there,

have conducted a search onthe forums but could not locate a suitable answer (maybe due to my poor search skills lengua.gif .

The core rulebook states that
1) Under section of librarian (P81), Psychic Powers is a talent.
2) A librarian may purchase psychic powers as he would purchasing a talent using XP (P.139), the number of powers the Librarian may gain at each rank is detailed as per specialities (p81), provided he meets the requirements (eg rank, amount of exp to payable, prerequisite powers, PSY rating, WP etc).
3) Psychic Techniques (P124) - A character may purchase a power in any discipline with XP cost lower than or equal to talent's cost. He need only spend XP to gain the talent and no more than that.

Correct my understanding on what I get after reading these rules.
Can I buy powers as and when I have sufficient XP and pre requisites?
Is it limited to the number that is in the specialities or may I buy as I would like I wish to purchase an ordinary talent?
Also, I'm quite unclear about the part on P124. P81 says that the cost of power varies. So how much must I pay for that talent if I wish to acquire a power that is say 2500XP (considering that I meet all the pre-requisites).

Would the experts at the forum please lend me a helping hand? Thanks in advance.

You're close. First up, the varying EXP cost to acquire your psychic abilities. The spells will have a specific EXP cost associated with them listed in the Psychic Powers section of the core rule book. An example of this would be say Avenger, which has a cost of 500 EXP as opposed to The Gate of Infinity which has a cost of 1000 EXP (In addition to other requirements.

As to the number of spells that you can learn, that one is dependent upon your rank. As a starting character Librarian, you know 3 spells chosen at character creation. While in rank 1, two more abilities may be purchased as part of your leveling up process. One additional spell may be learned once you've reached the ranks 2, 4, 6, and 8. They do not need to be learned while in those ranks, but the "slot" (if you will) to learn an additional one opens upon reaching specified ranks. An example of this would be that you've reached Rank 3 while only knowing the starting 3 spells. You could (assuming you meet the experience requirements as well as any requirements or pre-reqs.) learn an addition 3 spells (2 from Rank 1, and 1 from Rank 2 with no additional spell access granted at Rank 3)

I hope that clears up your questions.

Almost there. So let's say I wish to purchase a power that is 2500 (saying I meeting the prerequisites), I simply pay 2500XP as the "varies" cost for the psychic technique talent and nothing more right?
