new Vassal-Mod

By Gast265751, in Battlelore

Hi Battler,

I saw the new unpublished Vassal-Mod and I ask myself, why it isn't published. Looks good, works fine... I get no answer from the programmer. So everybody out here to tell more?

with Regards,

DamonWilder

We are still double-checking and revising the scenarios. Sorry I didn;'t get back to you earlier, been a ver busy two weeks.

Hi Brian,

thanx for your answer. First I wanna send you a PN, but it itsn't possible here.

Do you know, when it will be published? And do you only check the scenarios, the rest is ready?

Bye,

Damon

As far as I know, the rest is ready. there may be a tweak or two. 2 other guys are checking scenarios for me. Once we are done, we'll send it to the guy who created it for publication. It will include everything to date.

Great! Go ahead. happy.gif

We really looking forward to it!

Mmmmmmmm, Vassal Battlelore.

Any news?? And maybe the german fan-community could help checking the scenarios... We're very interested in publishing the new mod fast as you can.

Meanwhile, we still playing BL on Vassals old mod or the beta-version gui%C3%B1o.gif

Coltsfan76? Any news? Or do you the DoW-FFG-Way? gui%C3%B1o.gif

To bring it in line with FFG's previous policy would mean editing all the card graphics to remove the instructional text from them to ensure folks who play the VASSAL module actually own the game. Aside from that, I think everything else is pretty well good to go. Maybe removing the special scenario rules from the scenario description.

Can you say how long this works will take? Cause we plan a german version of the BL-Vassal-Mod and don't want publish it just a few days before the new mod will be published...

If I got this rigt, that means, BL on Vassal will be a non language BL-version? No text on cards, no text in the rules... just the graphics ???

As I understand it...

You can have the board, the unit graphics, and graphics for play aid.

Cards, however, will only get the names of the cards. The actual instructional text that would appear on the card would need to be blanked out. Players would basically have to keep a deck of the cards next to their computer as they played.

I think it's kinda lame, but I gotta agree with FFG defending their IP. It does them no good to sell a game and expansions that players can get for free and play on the internet.

That's why I really wish FFG would just work with Rodney Kinney to get their own VASSAL server so they could control the players who use it, and the game modules, and everything else about it so there wouldn't have to be restrictions incorporated.

Well over here in Germany, we have the www.brettspielwelt.de. (means boardgameworld)

It is a big community where you can play a lot of boardgames. Also the most famous and the recent top boardgames.
The publisher offer the games to the webmaster of this website to do a lot of advertising by this way. And it works great!
There is no concern that online players would not by their games. No concern that they will sell less because of this.

And it is right. They sell more because of this.
I played a lot in the brettspielwelt.de. Over years. And I would have not the amount of boardgames at home, if I had not played in the brettspielwelt.de

I think, the number of online-players who will not by games to play it at home with friends, compared to the number of players who will do it all the time, is so minimal. There will be no harm for a games publisher at all!

Vassal can be a great support for FFG. They should work together with the Vassal-team. gui%C3%B1o.gif

I certainly agree. I think VASL was a large part of the resurgence for Advanced Squad Leader.

That said, I think FFG's stance is much more in line with what corporate lawyers would advise and you can't fault them for following sound legal advice.

lengua.gif If it is at odds with sound business advice one can. Vassal and the like should be exploited for the good of the game (which, if done properly will coincide with making money), not actively shunned. (Not saying that FFG is doing this - I have little to no knowledge of how things like this are being handled. I do know that I have purchased every expansion and would not be nearly as involved in this game for the absence of Vassal.)

Unfortunately no. Real life keeps getting in the way. For me, health, first baby on the way, and moving. For Sultan, quite a few issues as well.
