The text talk about wining or loosing, but says nothing about a tie. Do both loose or win in a case of a tie?
Spell: Exorcism
It is a card that is strangely formulated. It feels like a combination of an opposed check and a competative check, since it seems that both are rolling opposed checks agains eachother. But well, as I interpret the card there can't be any ties. The card says: "... you and the target must engage in a battle of wills during each of your respective Beginning of Turn phase".
I interpret this to mean that you roll the opposed check in your Beginning of Turn phase, the one beeing exorcised rolls in his/her Beginning of Turn phase. That way, the first to achieve 3 successes/boons wins. It also means that (in most cases) the target of the spell gets to go first and attempt to win. This is also backed up with the text "A character who fails this check may not act on his turn", if both had rolled in each beginning of turn phase one of them would not have any turn to loose.
There is no possibility of a tie. The battle of wills that this spell forces uses an opposed check during each character's beginning of turn phase. Opposed checks compare active character's characteristic to the target's characteristic to determine the difficulty.
The caster casts the spell on his turn, but nothing happens until either his next turn or the target's next turn. On the caster's or target's next turn (and on each turn until the card refreshes or someone wins) that character makes a Discipline check opposed by the other characters Discipline during his beginning of turn phase.
- If he succeeds with less than 3 successes or boons nothing happens and his turn continues as normal.
- If he succeeds with 3+ successes or boons he wins.
- If he fails he cannot act on his turn; he is skipped.

Thanks for clarifying, I assumed that the contest would resolve on both turn.
