SoB Variant Questions

By rgrove0172, in Descent: Journeys in the Dark

Has anyone added the possibilty of overland encounters to SoB? Seems a logical and easy addition if youve got RtL setting right there?

Also, a general campaign idea - having all those available characters sitting there only to use just 4 of them for weeks as you complete a campaign seems a waste? What are your thoughts on allowing characters to actually DIE and be replaced with new characters during a game? Perhaps they could have their pick of the dead characters's gear but start fresh with no training and such.

Your feedback is appreciated

Letting them start with the dead character's gear is definitely a good idea. Maybe even give them "starting gold" for training and skill upgrades (drawn at random to maintain the balance of the party needing to travel to specific cities for specific skills.) The bonus amount to be based on the campaign level at the time.

You wouldn't want to start them "fresh off the boat" so to speak, because after the campaign hits silver a starting hero will only be a CT drain on the party. Too easy to kill, not strong enough to help.

Adding overland encounters to SoB sounds like a good idea on the surface, but remember that some of the SoB LTs are not able to leave the water. Having anything of significance outside the water might lead to the hero party having an unfair advantage.
