“In my order, we put aside our house names when we take our vows and don the collar.” The old man touched the maester's chain that hung loosely around his thin, fleshless neck.
–George R. R. Martin, A Game of Thrones
Here to Serve, the sixth and final Chapter Pack in the Secrets of Oldtown cycle for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game, is now on sale at your local retailer and on our webstore!
The influence of Maesters throughout the Seven Kingdoms reaches new heights with 60 new cards (3 copies each of 20 different cards), forging the final links in a cycle that explores the Maesters’ service to the great Houses of Westeros and their pursuit of knowledge.
Completing the chain
Here to Serve introduces the final Chain links, the Brass Link (Here to Serve, 118) and the Valaryian Steel Link (Here to Serve, 117), the latter of which signifies the Maester’s accomplishments in the study of magic. Though the study of magic is frowned upon by most Maesters, it can benefit those who delve its lore for new means to serve others. The Valyrian Steel Link allows you to kneel the Maester to whom it is attached to draw a card, but accomplished Maesters gain greater benefits, drawing two cards if they bear three or more Chain attachments.
Here to serve whom?
Maesters may think themselves the servants of all Westeros, but whose Westeros do they serve? Do they serve the House in which they live and its vision of Westeros, or do they serve the Citadel? Citadel Politics (Here to Serve, 116) explores this question the Houses must ask their Maesters.
Allowing you to kneel a Maester to make an additional Intrigue challenge, Citadel Politics can deplete unwary Houses of their resources in hand and bring power to those who know how to wield it. You can always choose to perform this challenge yourself, or in a Melee game, you may have your Maester communicate with another house and call upon their assistance. Despite their training, though, Maesters are only human and follow their own whims and loyalties, so be wary of placing too much faith in the assistance for which you send your ravens.
Fight Maesters with assassins
Maesters aren’t the only new characters offering their talents in Here to Serve. You’ll also find faceless assassins, dishonest knights, shadowy parasites, and prolific statesmen ready to raise their banners for your House… at least so long as you’re winning.
Take advantage of their service today, and seize the Iron Throne! Here to Serve is now on sale at your local retailer and on our webstore.
Note: The newest FAQ for A Game of Thrones: The Card Game is now available and includes a minor change to The Maester’s Path agenda (Gates of the Citadel, 19) so that it now only allows players to attach Chains to characters with the printed Maester trait.
