Doublehex's Custom Character Sheet

By Doublehex, in Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay

So I was inspired by what I was seeing by the work of others, and decided to do my own. I liked the borders that were around the pages of the 2nd Edition books, so I decided to implement that into my sheet.

Now, although these are "technically" done, I still feel that they still deserve some work, so please feel free to give me any input.

EDIT The character sheet is now done! Download links, along with Deathwatch and Wraith the Oblivion border versions are below.

Wow, that's pretty!

I'd add two things to the front: talent slots (or else room for talent and bonus) and Skill Specializations.

We play a skill heavy game so those are nice to have readily available.

I tried to fit in the talent slots, but I just couldn't manage it. It was too crammed up, so I had to move it to the second page.

I can fit specialisation easily enough though - but how should I format it? The official sheet does it with just lines. Should it be split into categories? And if so, what kind?

I think it should be:

Spec...Skill probably don't need characteristic, but if it fits, you could but the abbr. there too.

e.g.

_______________..________________.._____

__pick pocket_____.._____skulldug____.._agi_

No matter what you do, someone's going to make it form-fill :)

jh

Okay then, I managed to fit Specialisations in there. It's updated in the first post.

Add: I just noticed you don't have Careers on the front page :)

Page 2: Cut talents in half and leave room for the 10-questions: enemies, allies, other background. You could also thin up the actions for the same reason unless you're going to include "defenses" here.

Switch specializations with advanced skills as you're going to have more spec's than advanced. Even a wizard's only going to have 4 or so advanced. Keep enough room though for 2nd tier characters with added careers.

Move the advanced skills then above the equipment so it's closer to the relevant section (easy enough).

I'd remove the basic actions from the sheet to free up more room for background, etc. Everybody gets these anyways so they don't need to be listed. Defenses would be optional, and ideally on front page (if you wanted to move corruption to the back, as it's not going to be a commonly tracked stat anyways..it would free up that little square for checkmarks for defenses (PDF dropdown here could have basic or advanced as needed..just leave 3 lines).

Star sign and dooming (and anything else not frequently referenced) should be moved to the "background" section as these aren't standard WFRP3 (I like them from 2e, but they don't belong up front). I'd add homeland/birthplace here as it will matter in the very near future as we start getting different regional characters (brettonian, other imperial regions, estalian, etc.). I would keep only frequently referenced things on page 1. Name, careers, race, player. This will free up a lot of room.

Other than those little nitpicky move things, I think you've got an excellent sheet! :)

That's because I have the third page dedicated entirely to careers!

Switch specializations with advanced skills as you're going to have more spec's than advanced. Even a wizard's only going to have 4 or so advanced. Keep enough room though for 2nd tier characters with added careers.

Did that, and switched Characteristics and Basic Skills around, because I wanted Advance Skills to be "connected" with Basic Skills.

Move the advanced skills then above the equipment so it's closer to the relevant section (easy enough).

Not really - I would need to switch up Advanced Skills and Equipment, and there's not enough room for Equipment below Characteristics!

I already have Defense on the front page. :P

Followed your advice, and by some strange miracle I managed to fit both the 10 questions AND Homeland, Distinguishing Features, Star Sign and Dooming!

Other than those little nitpicky move things, I think you've got an excellent sheet! :)

Those were more than a few nitpicks, but I think they helped made a better sheet.

Man, you have done a good job! Let's test it out and see how it goes. I'll fwd it to my players and see what they think.

That is just awesome. No need for me to finish my sheets now. :D

Good job to the both of you. New character sheet versions have been a long time coming.

As for the praise - thank you guys! I've also got a few more versions - one is with the Deathwatch border, and the other is with Wraith: the Oblivion's borders. Deathwatch fitted easily enough, and I'm sure we will eventually get supplements to let us play as Chaos so Wraith will fit perfectly there.

Would you like me to host these on The Daily Empire?

Feel free to add them! I don't mind at all.

What font did you use for this btw?

jh

Dark11 and OptimusPrinceps.

Here is some feedback I got from the players this morning:

* There's no space for general equipment or ammo

Other refinements suggested:

* The characteristics next to the skills would look better if abbreviated, otherwise all the text from the skills and characteristics looks like it runs together. This would also leave room for an "other" checkbox (talent, race or specialization "notice" check-box). Once it goes to form-fill, this will take up three letters rather than all the extra spce.

* Characteristic could be abbreviated throughout, opening up more space for descriptions in other things.

* they want the career listed on the front instead of deity

* characteristic font doesn't need to be so big as it's no longer lined up with skills. This saves on room for other things below.

The "Y" in weapon quality also get's cut off. You could vary the text size to make it fit as well.

* My form guy says don't worry about putting tabs for talent slots on the side as they can be added with a form field anyways.

*Should there be an area to note "current party sheet affiliation?" I don't use it, but I was just thinking of that.

Your sheet is legendary btw man!

* There's no space for general equipment or ammo

I will do my hardest to get this in there somewhere, but I do not know where exactly. I could cut out 10 Questions for it, and create a 4th page dedicated to the character's backrgound.

I can do that, but what do you mean by an "other" checkbox? I don't see any mention of that in the official character sheet.

Why? They would need to flip to Page 3 to see what the specifics of that career is anyways.

* characteristic font doesn't need to be so big as it's no longer lined up with skills. This saves on room for other things below.

The decrease in font size would create a minescule amount of room, and it is still the same font size as Character (25pt) which it is currently horizoantly lined up with.

Is he referring to Page 3 at the top?

One of the things that oftentimes gets missed is if you have a specialization, talent, racial, or other bonus to a skill check. A box for that was suggested to be handy.

For space on the table, you'd really only want the front page showing. For groups that still socket talents, it would be used on the side of the character sheet (like it is on the career sheet). We don't use socketing anymore so it doesn't really matter to me, but traditional groups could want that.

I'd suggest for the equipment section, not to add a 4th page and just steal a bit of room from talents and the 10 questions (homeland is reproduced and you've got deity on the front page).

And it would appear I screwed up doubly - not only did I post the same link twice, BUT the Deathwatch and Wraith border sheets were too small of a resolution to properly fit on a 8.5x11 paper! The base sheet is fine.

Deathwatch

Wraith the Oblivion

Nice work :)

Hey looks great! Love the printer friendly nature of it too! but.....

hi doublehex. please post your character sheet on DROPBOX

thanks

Doublehex's Sheets are now hosted on the Daily Empire (click HERE).

Doublehex - If you make changes etc. could you email me the new sheets to doc_cthulhu (at) hotmail.com?

Good deal. I've started on another variant based on Doublehex's for my games as well.

It will be nice to have a good bank of variant character sheets!
