Classic Format and First Plots

By Meeks23, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

I'd just like to ask if there still any Classic format (CCG) tournaments still being played.

  • Are the cards released in the LCG part of the format.
  • Also, are the latest versions of the cards (those that showed up in the LCG) are being used or are the CCG versions being used.
  • An example is Frozen Solid. It used to be able to be attached to any attachment or any location and used by any House.

Suggestions on "house rules" are appreciated.

Also, what is the most used First Plot in Jousts these days in LCG format? The old staples like Trading with the Pentoshi, A Beggared Realm, Conventions of War or A Gathering Storm weren't reprinted.

The only event i know is at Stahleck and it´s a highlander classic. Maybe people are still playing here and there classic games, but i think that´s a rare occasion.

Yes, they are, but i´m not sure about the banned and restricted list. I think there´s at least no need for the restricted list, since there´s a ton of cards which has easyily the same power level in classic.

I would definetely run the old frozen solid version. Both cards are legal, so i can´t see why one would chose the reprint.

Before the restriction it was "fury of the wolf/lion/stag/kraken/dragon/sun". Today i think it´s either a city plot (especially at the gates) or blockade or loyalty money can buy or muster the realm.

I don't see classic play anywhere anymore. Anyone want to buy some classic cards?

In my experience the reprinted cards take precidence over the older cards with text and rulings.

First plots depends on where you play. I'd say Loyalty Money Can Buy, At the Gates, Blockade, and Rule By Decree get played the most where I play.

For first plots, I guess it depends on the format you're playing. In a melee, which is the format I play mostly, I see a lot of summon/building/good for the gander. I also personally love to play Burning Bridges out of Lannister. At the Gates has been a pretty huge turn 1 plot. Personally I don't mind running Feast or Famine first turn either.

I personally would love to see some classic play. It's sad sitting on all these old cards and not using them. I have a couple of times built one just for kicks and played it in my local meta. Shortly after the first Defenders of the North cycle came out I built a Stark/Wildling Deck using Wildlings for Winter Ed. and it's expansions.

So i guess this was setup as a theme deck. Because every time i play a highlander classic deck i find it notable stronger than a usual lcg format joust deck. Maybe that´s because i like to play defenders of the north, threat from the east and brothers at war so much. ;-)

Actually, yes I do.

I don't have much use for them beyond cobbling together janky theme decks for my own amusement, which I then spring on my local meta for fun (hearing the collective gasps of horror / the sound of minds being blown by things like ITE promo Ser Ilyn is music to my ears).

So, as a quick plug: if people do have old stuff laying about that they're not going to use again, I'd give it a very happy home.

@Old Ben: Do u know if this year will be as well highlander in Stahleck?

I´m not sure, but i somehow expect it to be on Saturday evening as it was the years before.

I would also be happy if we could as a house rule ban the brothers agenda from the game. I won the last 2 years the tournament with the agenda, and the top 4 always had i think at least 3 brothers decks. It just seems a little bit too strong to have 2x30 card decks in classic highlander, even better than a defenders of the north deck.

According to the tourney website , yes there is (Saturday evening).

I don't know what's worse, playing against them, or the fact that we volunteered to play against them for "***** and giggles".
