Great game - a question though

By ktei2008, in Warhammer Invasion Rules Questions

Last night was first play. Met with a question. Read the FAQ but didn't find the answer.

Q: When my opponent attacks me, and in that attacked zone I have, say, 1 defender but I don't want that defender to get hurt. So, I choose not to declare any defenders. Then, what should happen? Can my opponent still assign damage to that defender, though he's not declared as 'defender', and instead, the attacked zone takes that damage?

Thank you guys

Units need to be declared as defenders to be targets for assigning regular combat damage. If no defender is declared, the attacker cannot assign damage to the non-defending units in the same zone. All damage in this case is assigned to the attacked zone.

So I think in this case, when I don't want a particular unit to die, I can just let him NOT participate in the defending and let my zone take the damage from attackers. Am I correct?

Yes, exactly. It is sometimes better to let the damage hit the zone and keep the unit for the next attack or because it has a valuable action rather than blocking the damage and thus losing the unit.

Very nice! Thank you tako.
