are Targ Armies "Aggro"?

By rwjohnson, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

So I'm still trying to learn deck archetypes, and it seems like a Targ Army deck would fit best in the Aggro catagory. Is that correct?

What are the keys to building a good army deck? Or a good aggro deck? Wildlings were successful a whil back (before I started playing). Is that primarily because of cards like "The Wildling Horde" which let you put in a cheap deadly army with stealth? Is there anything in the current game that can replicate that, like Plaza of Purification?

Has anyone created a successful Targ deck running beefy characters?

I threw out an idea here but I still don't think its a strong build even after tweaking it a bunch. Its really susceptible to Lanni kneel and even with PoP using influence to pay for them, still expensive. I'd be happy to bounce ideas back and forth if you have some thoughts...

Cool, I had some similar ideas, especially with the warcrest theme and cards like Price of War. I think the big decision for me would be to chose between the Summer Agenda for draw, or going with the Hollow Hill Agenda for the gold and influence. Summer lets you get some big effects in, Especally Myrish Villa which could almost be considered a substitue for plaza of pride I suppose. And you have fair weather followers, which also synergyze well with Summer and warcrest themes.

The big thing for me, as you mentioned, is the weakness to kneel and control effects. last time I tried to play a beefy character deck I got owned by both kneel effects and rush decks. I couldn't get enough characters out to deal with kneel, and I didn't have enough strength/stealth/deadly to deal with the rush.

The other issue is the lack of draw in Targ, none of which works particularly well in Army builds. Off the top of my head, options are Red Warlock, QoD Khal Drogo, Jhogo, Xaro's, Maegi Crone... neutral draw offers Gilly, Sam, KL, Bay of Ice, Kings of Summer, and Val.
i.e. your best options probably mean playing Summer.

I recommend Blue lipped warlock with Shade of the evening. You can put them in every challenge as an attacker as a sidekick for the other characters and there will be no card problems. You will get 1 card for every win with a limited search from your deck. Works better with Summer. And by the way, it is not a draw. So if you have 2 Shade of the evening out, can have 6+2 card in hand (2*3 from attacking and 2 from defending successfully) if you are lucky.

I like the idea of Blue Lipped Warlock with Shade, especially with the summer bonus. But it's 4 gold for a 1 strength Ally, which makes it somewhat unreliable. Especially when I'm running Threat From the North. I hate discarding my own dudes.

I agree completely. As much as I like this combo, it seems "flimsy" with the current attachment-hate heavy environment. It does have the advantage of being completely recursable if you have LDC out and some dead characters, but still costs 4 gold each Round and the BLW can easily be discarded by Varys, Ser AO, etc.
