FFGs version compared to 2nd edition

By Replicant253, in Talisman

Last night me and a few friends had a great game of 2nd edition Talisman.

It is a rare event that we actually play a board game, it only really happends when someone drops out of our RP group. For this reason i have never updated to any of the later editions, but i have come very close to buying FFG's version on a number of occassions.

However if i were to buy FFGs version then in one swift move i relegate my lovely 2nd edition copy, which has lots of nostalgic value, to a unused relic.

So my question is, Is the FFg version a noticeable improvement upon the 2nd edition to justify purchasing for a once in a blue moon game of it?

Not really imo. If you intend to buy all the expansions it gets pretty expensive for something you don't intend to play that often. While 4th edition is awesome, the basic game is very similar to 2nd edition. Apart from the new fate system, there aren't that many differences. Of course if money is no issue and you want all the expansions, they bring a whole new aspect to the game that you won't get in 2nd edition.
