Lots of noob questions

By hencook, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

1. What does Take Control mean? In my hand, or out in play?

2. Are the locations that attach to my house card as an attachment still count as locations?

3. If a character card is not yet out in play, can I play it as a response, even if the card's response does not specify to put the character out into play? (eg: playing Strong Belwas while he's still in my hand, as a response, when a noble character was killed)

4. Pentoshi Guildmaster: "After you win a challenge by 4 or more total STR"... If my opponent had 3 str, and I had 4 str, would this response trigger?

5. When my character gets killed and I have someone else's attachment on my character , where does the attachment go?

6. Rule by decree. "When revealed, the player with the most cards in hand..." What happens when there is a tie for the player with the most cards in hand?

7. The Power of Blood- "Noble characters cannot be killed". AFAIK This is not an immunity, so can I choose to target my noble character to die after losing a military challenge?

8. What exactly are character abilities? Some cards allow you to ignore character abilities, yet Renly's Courtier has "treat that character as though its printed text box were blank (except for traits)". Is this the same thing?

1. In play. Card effects can only target cards in play, unless stated otherwise.

2. No. Check the FAQ if you have not. That will help answer a lot of questions.

3. No, for the same reason as answer to question 1

4. No. In the example, you count 4 STR, but only won by 1. (see Make an Example for an example of counting STR)

5. The owner's discard pile. All cards that leave play return to their owners' discard/dead pile as appropriate.

6. Then nobody has the most cards, so nothing happens.

7. No you cannot. Again, check the FAQ.

8. Character abilities are anything printed in the card text area of a character, with the exception of traits. No, RC blanks the card text. For example, Renly (CS) is Immune to opponent's character abilities, which means he cannot be the target of the abilities of a character an opponent controls (e.g. RC cannot blank Renly's text) and cannot be affected by the same type of effects even if they do not target him (e.g. The Red Viper's (TftRK) ability will not kill him )

Just to correct this point, character abilities are anything printed in the card text area of a character, with the exception of traits and keywords (Deadly, Stealth, Intimidate, etc). An important distinction.

To further correct: character abilities are the non-keyword, non-trait card effects printed on a character card that are initiated from play. For example, the Response on Khal Drogo, which puts him into play from a player's hand, would be considered a character "effect," not a character "ability" because it is triggered from your hand, not while the Khal is in-play.

Basically, a "card ability" is any non-keyword effect that is triggered from a card while it is in play.
