Brann Stark

By Bigjim22, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

Quick question on Brann stark card (I believe from the core set)

Text box reads

Plot : Kneel Brann Stark to choose and reveal a new plot card.

1- Does this mean a new plot card for me only? Or Can I select a new plot card from an opponent?

2a- Once a new plot card is selected does the original go to the used plot card pile? If so, that narrows the chosen plot deck by 1. Therefore running out of available plots cards a round earlier than the rest of the players, Does the owner of that plot deck get to re-use plot cards a round earlier than the rest of the table?

2b- Am I mistaken in the understanding of replacing a plot card? Or does this allow me to play an additional plot card?

Thanks folks

Only you, the card does not say "all players reveal a new plot" although there are some cards that allow you to force an opponent to choose a new plot.

Yes, you follow normal rules for revealing a new plot, which results in you placing the first plot in the used plot pile. Any card effects that cause a player to reveal more than 1 plot per Round will cause them to run through their plot deck quicker. Not a bad thing if you are running, for example, the City plots.

Not sure specifically what you mean; you can never have more than 7 plots in your plot deck. Bran will allow you to take advantage of more than one "When revealed..." plot per Round, or you can use him pre-plot to play a "When revealed..." plot for its effects, then play your normal plot for the round and get better gold, initiative, or claim. For example, you can use him as a pre-plot action and play Valar to kill everything, then the normal revealing of plots happens for all players, including you, and you can play something better - you wont get stuck with 2 gold and 0 claim for a Round.

I always thought that you couldn't get more initiative with the Bran card because the action window on Plot phase is after you decide first player.

Also, imho the effects of the old plot that was revealed end as soon you reveal a new plot (this is from game mechanics, right).

There's an action window in the plot phase before plots are chosen.

True, but what would be the point of choosing and revealing a plot with Bran during the first Plot Action Window if you would have to choose another right after? Wouldn't it make more sense to choose it on the second Plot Action Window so you could adjust accordingly to other people's plots?

It would still not increase your initiative as Skowza was suggesting. (technically it would, but it wouldn't influence the choice of first player)

It really depends. Often you will want to reveal a plot for its effects, and then another for more income. Or perhaps you suspect somebody will play a plot that would kill Bran, so you can get one more use out of him by using him before revealing plots with everybody else.

You do it for the "When revealed..." effects. For example, you trigger Bran pre-plot, flip Valar, then flip another plot with higher gold/claim as your regular plot. That way, you get to use Valar without the drawbacks. That's a pretty good use right there. I'm sure you can come up with others if you think about it.

I get it. Thanks :-)

Ok I thought thats how he was used but I wasnt certain. The Text boxes of card are pretty specific, and when it didnt say anything about "who" revealed a new plot It had me wondering about the potential of that card. Thanks for all the comments. Much appreciated....

For example, "Challenges: choose and kill an attacking character" only lets the person triggering the effect choose and kill a character, not one character for every player. The limit to just the one player is inherent in the fact that only one player triggers the effect.
