Can't find the enemies I need...

By Ten Tigers, in Deathwatch

Hello, I'm new to this system but no stranger to gaming. I noticed an extreme lack of enemies in the core rulebook. I generally design my own campaigns so I need some kind of compendium for some of the most popular advesaries of man. I was amazed that there were no Orks in the book... Well they mentioned them but there was nary a statline to be found.

I'm needing a comprehensive list of the basics: Orks, Eldar, Tyranids (not enough of them in the core book), Tau (same problem with the nids)

Can someone recommend any sources? I'd prefer a compilation. I don't like having to dig through multiple sources when all I want to do is create an Ork clan for my killteam to quell, or an Eldar detatchment for them to investigate.

The tyranid listing in the core book is a perfect example of what I'm talking about. Its nice that they have the staples, but I need Lictors, Genestealers, Carnifex, etc...

I hear you brother! Nothing more maddening than a new game and not enuf critters to use...yer best bet, to my mind, is to find No1here's profile and click on the link in his signature...he's got stats for all the eldar and orks ya might need (and tyranids, too)...the Mark of the Xenos critter compendium is...acceptable...but it has no eldar stats of any kind (and it'll cost ya). Check out No1here's critter stats - i found them very useful (i.e. saved me from having to do it all meself ;)

Welcome and enjoy slaughtering the enemies of the Emperor! happy.gif

(Oh, the only Tau stats i've found were in MotX - a nice little writeup, decently informative)

I've noticed that also, and it really hurts me as a starting gm since I don't want tyranids in my campaign but all the preset campaigns(afaik) have tyranids in them which forces me to use different enemies but they are a bit scattered across the books rather than being in one place (ork boys are in a dark heresy book >_>)

Yes, sadly, this seems to be the norm, as it forces us to buy multiple books for the wee little tidbits that we need, instead of having it all in one handy dandy place...grrrr...personally, i don't buy into that rat race, so i make up me own stats (but, as stated previously, No1Here's stats [linked to through his signature] were a very handy stop-gap)....games these days aren't meant for players - they're meant to make money; FFG plays that game (heartlessly) well.

How do you search for forum members? I tried the standard search function but didn't come up with any hits.

Yeah, sorry about that, I should've used his name with the proper spelling and such. My bad. sonrojado.gif

This is very helpful, thank you.

one question though, I can't find the inaccurate trait the orks have, in what book is that?

sorry for derailing the thread a bit :<

I meant weapon quality, my mistake.

It was surprsing not to see orks and eldar in the Core Book and also surprising to see Chaos in the core book (given the Deathwatch being the Chamber Militant to the Ordo Xenos ). However FFG are writing for the Jericho reach, where there are three primary BIG enemies of Mankind, Tau, Chaos and Tyranids. So that's what shows up in the Core book and makes sense.

As far as the Money making statement goes. Yes FFG are a Company and to produce their products they need to pay their employees. Every RPG since DnD has had multiple books produced for it (if it's been good enough to last in the market) and it's entirely possible to run full and interesting deathwatch campaigns with the stuff that's in the CoreBook alone. Given the System, talents and traits and indeed the basic set of Enemies in the Jericho Reach are there, it's not hard for a GM to splice up some more Xenos of their own requirments.

Orks are also mentioned in other places in the game lines and teh eldar are out there too, lurking. Not to mention, as provided, the links to the creations of others who will share their work for free.

Its true the core rulebook has only a limited number of foes presented, but there are other books that have stats. A compendium of foes is of course 'Mark of Xenos'. It alos has stats for orks. Others can be found the 'Emperor Protects' adventure

You can also take some creatures from the other lines like Dark Heresy or Rogue Trader. For Dark Heresy there is the 'Creatures Anathema' book, which lists some foes. The Dark Heresy Core rulebook has some daemons mentioned, which you could use.

The way I see it, despite the name, DW is primarily a Space Marines game, and Deathwatch the Chapter was adopted as a convenient plot device to allow for two things not otherwise possible with Astartes: mixed-Chapter teams and operating in smaller units. Both are obviously very appealing from the perspective of RPG design. Focusing solely on hunting Xenos, not so much.

Old post I know, but thought it was topical as I've just spent the afternoon hunting through my 40K RPG books for a description of the 'Inaccurate' Weapon quality: Answer = Inaccurate weapon gain no bonus from aim actions (Ref: Dark Heresy Core Rules alt Ref Black Crusade Core Rules)

Quite rightly pointed that the DW are part of the Ordo Xenos which specialises in fighting alien species.

Here's where I can suggest you can get the enemy stats from:

Orks - Refer to No1h3r3's write up
Eldar - Refer to No1h3r3's write up
SM - Core book/ First Founding
Chaos / Daemons - Core/ Mark of the Xenos/ Black Crusade
Dark Eldar - Black Crusade
Tyranids - Core/ Mark of the Xenos
Necrons - The Emperor Protects/ Mark of the Xenos
Imperial Guardsmen - Core/ Black Crusade/ Dark Heresy

Several other exotic enemies can be found in the Mark of the Xenos. More or less has been covered here.
