Cyclone 7: "Rescue the General" - Broken?

By Loophole Master, in Dust Tactics General Discussion

I've just played this scenario, where the command squads need to escape the enemy's side of the board and make their way to the other side. I think the idea is great, but it just doesn't seem to work. Just by looking at the map, I immediately feared the match couldn't possibly end in any other way than a quick mutual defeat. And my fears proved well founded, as both command squads got wiped out at the 3rd round.

I just don't see how the outcome can possibly be any different. As soon as the command squads step out, they will inevitably come under fire, and not being very resilient, they'll soon be wiped out. I tried rushing some units to cover their exit, but even though the Mickey managed to position itself right next to them and wipe out two squads and one hero on the way, there were still plenty of enemies around to finish them off. My opponent had even less of a chance, as I simply rushed BBQ squad to block the kommandotrupp's exit and wiped them out in a single attack.

Has anybody been able to play this mission in a more fullfilling way? How? I'm already thinking about how I can change it to make it work. I suppose it might become a BIT more playable once we have any heroes with the Command skill that we can attach to the command squad, adding a little bit more survivability to it. But even then I don't think it will really work as intended...

I almost got a win with the one game I played if Mickey hadn't got reborn at the wrong time in the wrong place. I decided to hunker down and wait for reinforcements which nearly did it, but as you say, you can't do it as the scenario intended, no way can anything get across the board.

Its not broken its just very difficult to pull out a win. Also I'm mostly sure this mission is meant to be a "Tie breaker" so that you don't end the campaign at 4-4. Also I would expect this to end in a draw at best almost every time.

I have nothing against a draw, I just don't like an unsatisying match that establishes an impossible objective. Crossing the command squad to the other side is completely out of the question, your only hope is to somehow rush a few units towards it and cram them between the command squad and your enemies until the end of the match...

Just as a side note have you tried attaching a hero to you command squad?

I didn't realize any heroes could do this yet. Don't they have to have the "Command" skill to attach to a command squad?

That is what I thought.

You can't attach a hero without the Command skill to a command squad. And since none of the heroes released so far have that skill, that is not possible.

I know about the rule just making a suggestion for that particular scenario.

I've just realized something, the rules force you to deploy the Command Squad in that square on the other side of the board, but do they prevent you from deploying any OTHER units in that square as well?! Deploying and moving, and using faster units, you could deploy 2 or 3 other units along with your command squad on the other side of the board, and that would help a LOT in protecting it.

They are marked with additional color to differentiate them, but they are otherwise normal deplyment squares.

Well spotted loopy, that would change the game completely.
