Right in the kisser

[First ever post on this forum] Now I didn't see a topic in the forum for this, but then again I spent a total of four or five seconds scanning it so I probably just over looked it.

Something I always always always have trouble doing is painting faces. I'm usually wargaming in the 6mm range where a soldier's head is pretty much a non-descriptive sphere of lead, so my experience with painting faces is pretty much flinging a small glob of paint across the room and having it engulf the poor soldier's head.

Does anyone have some advice about painting faces on this particular scale? I would really appreciate any guidance. On that same note, if a thread already exists discussing that topic: I will gladly go read it, flipping any tables and small children who happen to be in the way. Many thanks in advance to be accompanied by more post-helped-happiness.

I get some compliments on my faces (I do not see how really). I usually detach them, paint the face with a layer of thinned white, then I use thin layers of flesh tone until I get the color I want. Sometimes it takes 3 or 4 light coats. Then I wash the face to bring out the features, and dry brush a little flesh to highlight them. The good thing about the Dust heads is most of them are wrapped in scarves and only the face is uncovered.

Easiest way is to use the GW Foundation Paint Tallarn Flesh. Wash with Ogryn Flesh and you're done. If you want, you can highlight Elf Flesh first before the wash.

Thank you both, I really appreciate the advice. I'll definitely have to try out the techniques you were mentioning Fluminarex, I've experiemented with various washes and paints and more specifically the order in which it was done but all I usually end up with is a discolored face. If I may ask a follow up question: eyes and mouth. I've tried convincing people these supposed appendeges don't exist, but I can't say that arguement has worked for me so far. How can one paint them so you don't get two oddly shaped anime eyes?

I'll look into investing into some more GW Foundation paints, I'm mostly working with generic paints. How much do they cost?

I use this same technique. The overall skin tone comes out a little dark and reddish from the wash, but I think it looks good enough, and very quick and easy.

They are cheap, $3.50 for a bottle that has enough paint to do hundreds of faces.
