Iroh

By cyrilg61, in Tannhauser

Hi,

I just bought the single pack Iroh, and i can't understand one thing, what is this strange token with the same picture on the two faces. A sort of symbol yellow and red. Sorry i don't have picture to show. Thanks

Without a pic it's hard to say as I don't have him yet, but I'd guess it's for his scenario.

It is a Fire Token as those who come in the Daedalus Map Supplement.

Has anybody already played Iroh and likes to comment on him? At least I would be interested.

Iroh is available in Germany at last, and I got him yesterday. It seems that he is quite powerful, especially his Combat Pack with the dual swords. I really like his ability to attack twice a turn in hand-to-hand combat with 5 and 4 dice while the opponent rolls 1 less die in shock rolls. That'll certainly deal some damage.

Does the effect of Hoka-Kontan mean, that he

a) must immediately attack after his attack the katana

or

b) may he succesfull attack with his katana, then move and then attack with his second weapon?

I'm pretty sure it is immediate.

I agree. "Once per turn, after making an attack ..." means "immediately after making an attack", so you attack the same enemy again immediately after the first attack.

You cannot between the two attacks so if you kill your target with the first one, you actually loose the opportunity of a second attack unless there is another enemy character adjacent to you.

Remenber the seccond attack is always optional, and I can see it being directed at a second adjacent character, but I'm not sure,

I know that any activity in between the two attacks would be beyond the what I believe the rules allow. I. e. no attack, move, attack.

I'm also wondering if this ability could be used in a counter-attack, remember that counter-attacks are resolved as "regular attacks".

And that is not outside of a real-world logic argument.

I managed to play Iroh and the Shogunate troopers yesterday and they proved to be quite strong. They were supported by Wolf and Gorgei while fighting a Union team including MacNeal, Brown, Hoax and two Alphas in a simple Deathmatch. Everyone except Brown and the standard Shogunate trooper, who were carrying their Stamina packs, had their Combat pack equipped. The Shogunate team clearly defeated the Union, although both mercs suffered wounds and both troopers were killed.

Iroh quickly killed Hoax, who had been forced to become visible by a smoke grenade, and a Commando with his dual melee attack. The Shin agent picked up a flashgun and attacked MacNeal rolling 7 dice. MacNeal had no chance as the successes even included a Natural 10. The Mercs held Brown and the other Commando at bay and eventually killed them, Wolf using his dual overwatch attack several times. Conclusion: The Shogunate characters are quite cool, especially Iroh.

Um, I do not remember the reason, and I do not have my rulebook with me, but I think it is not possible to play 2 mercs in a group (at least when using the normal procedure of recruiting mercs). Other opinions?

I'm pretty sure that a ver. 1.0 rule, the merc rules on page 8 make no mention of merc limits.

You can have all 3 hero slots filled by mercs. I assume the confusion may be that you may only have one of each character on the board, thus if 2 players select the same merc, then one will have to choose a different one.

The Shogunate are turning out to be a very powerful faction in their own right. Definitely have a martial arts feel.

Miah´s right. I reread the new rules, and it is just how you said. You can have as many mercs as you like (as long as you keep an eye to the max limit of 3 heroes). I find myself mixing old and new rules occasionally. Sorry for that.

Of course, Horsa´s right, too :)

Just in case anybody wants to know, the Union managed to strike back. The team traded the Alphas for two Deltas with flame grenades. Although the fire didn't actually do a lot of damage (I think only two or maybe three wounds in the whole game), it scattered the Shogunate characters and effectively stopped them from entering hand-to-hand combat. The Union team gunned their enemies down from afar while loosing only one Delta, although Hoax was on her last row as well.
