Trying my hand at building a new deck.

By Bigjim22, in 4. AGoT Deck Construction

So I have the core set x1

Kings of the Sea x1

Princes of the Sun x1

A sword in the darkness x1

The wildling horde x1

A king in the North x1

Beyond the wall x1

Return of the Others x1

Scattered armies x1

Secrets and spies x1

Illyrios gift x1

Refugees of war x1 (shipped yesterday)

Have only played about 4 games. Still getting used to the game but I love it. I want to start customizing a deck. Was hoping for some good pointers from some of you more expeirenced players. So thanks in advance for any advice.

Questions

1- Whats a good number of cards for a deck?

2- Whats a solid breakdown of cards? (lands, characters, events, etc.)

3- Any deceptively good cards or combinations of cards in the above mentions sets?

4- Is there a must have chapeter pack I should be looking for asap?

Any other advice would be appreciated.

As close to 60 (the minimum number of cards allowed) as possible. Allows for more predictability in draw.

Rough guide is 30 characters, 15 locations with 10 discount locations, 15 events/attachments with the balance depending on your House (Targ likes attachments, Martell likes events).

What House do you like? All of the Refugees are good 0-cost characters, great for setup and claim soak.

Ancient Enemies for the Fury plots if you aren't using another restricted card.

Watch your cost curve so you can play as much as possible each Round. Go for 4+ card setup with 0 and 1 cost characters and locations.

Remember the goal is to hit 15 power before your opponent, not to kill all his characters or discard his enitre hand. Try to remember that because in my first couple months i wasn't really playing the right way too much focus on military

That being said make sure you appropriate the right amount of each combat "area". Power might be the most useful, but don't disregard that not putting enough Military in your deck - most of the time you can't gain Power unless you have characters, so keeping a good board presence is just as important as having more power.
