Trying to draw the line between Phase II and Phase III

By Teddyhead, in Arkham Horror Second Edition

Hello,

I'm a little confused about whether the combats with the monsters on board should be considered a part of Movement phase OR Encounter Phase.

In specific, should the sentence "Once an investigator begins combat with a monster for any reason, his movement is over" be interpreted as such, or should it be read: "Once an investigator begins combat with a monster for any reason, his movement is over BUT his movement PHASE continues until the end of the combat?"

And the next sentence: "Regardless of whether or not he wins the battle, the investigator loses the rest of his movement points and must remain where he is." -- What if that area contained a gate, should the investigator still remain where he was until the next phase, or should he move to the Other World during the movement phase, after which he would have an Other World Encounter straight away, OR not until the next round?

his movement is over, his movement phase however, is not.

he should stay in the area after combat; i e he should not continue to move (even by using motorcycle or similar to get "new" movement points).
in the next phase you will enter the gate regardless of outcome in combat (so even if you e.g. got delayed as part of a combat with goat child(?), you still get sucked through the gate). the line "stay where you are" merely indicates that your movement moving is over.

And what about after you had just gone through the gate (after the combat during the movement phase), will you have an Other World Encounter straight away, or not until the next round?

Yes, you would have an Other World encounter that turn, although not necessarily immediately afterwards, since all players take each phase before the next phase begins.

I see. So when you go through the gate, you go through all phases II, III, and IV during the same round.

Thanks.

You're not going through the gate during the movement phase. You're doing it during the Arkham Encounter Phase. Going through the gate is the effect replacing the encounter. And then during the Other World Encounter, you have an encounter.

Acknowledged.
