Prolific Statesman

By nikotina, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

An interesting question arised at agotcards about this card http://www.agotcards.org/card/v/4063

If Sister of Truth were to return this card to the Shadow area, what would happen to it? Could it come out of shadows again by paying its printed gold cost? Or it just stays there? Or maybe Sister of Truth effect cannot apply?

I (Octavio in agotcards) searched the Shadow rules and interpreted the following "At the beginning of the any phase, a card that is in Shadows can come out of Shadows and into play at the discretion of the player controlling the card. Each player has the option of bringing one card out of his or her Shadows area each phase. When a card is brought out of Shadows in this manner, the non-Shadows portion of its gold cost (the number printed after the "s" in the card's cost), as well as any applicable gold penalties, is paid, or the card cannot come out of Shadows." So, the crest has nothing to do with bringing it out of shadows, but, as he has no "number printed after the "s" in the card's cost", the card cannot come out of shadows. Another interesting thing is that the printed gold cost could not be determined when the card has a shadow crest."

Am I correct?

No. You are making it far too complicated because of the following from the Shadows rules:

"Cards without the (Shadows) crest and the Shadows cost cannot be marshalled or moved into Shadows."

So Sister of Truth cannot "return" a Prolific Statesman to Shadows because, without the sX cost convention, it is against the rules to move it into Shadows in the first place. So the whole premise is moot because Prolific Statesman will never be in Shadows, whether it has gained the Shadow crest or not.

Thanks for that! I just have to remember to look for those words such as "cannot".
