Help making a deck

By player1394961, in Call of Cthulhu Deck Construction

I am allowed to use

Core Set

Secrets of Arkham

The Order of the Silver Twilight.

Have x3 of all cards in those sets. Any good recommendations, I would prefer a Hastur/Yog discard deck, or something along those lines, but basically any good decklist will do. Thank you very much.

If you were hoping to try a Hastur/Yog discard deck, which cards have you identified as the key elements of your strategy?

I think this community is going to respond more quickly to providing feedback on your ideas as opposed to starting from scratch.

Also it will get you more engaged in the process to start thinking through how you would approach it.

I'm not a huge fan of Kirby - he's not bad, but I prefer Marshall Greene.

Also, with all the combat icons you are trying to accumulate, have you considered Prize Pistol?

Thank you for your input any way, once we expand our "legal" playset, I will add/exchange those.

Oh - I see. I don't know which cards come from which set - sorry.

Your input was still useful and appreciated. ^^

I don't know Agency much yet since I'm a fairly new player, but I have toyed around with Shub and Cthulhu (not mixed, but at least I have some familiarity with their cards).

So, looking at the carddb deckbuilder filtered to only show the sets you're using, let's see what we have...

Characters:
Cost 1: 3xDegenerate Ghoul
Cost 2: 3xKeeper of the Golden Path, 3xYoung Deep One, 3xAlbino Goat Spawn, 3xDiseased Sewer Rats
Cost 3: 3xGuardian Shoggoth, 3xFreelance Agent, 3xMystic Bounty Hunter
Cost 4: 3xRavager from the Deep, 2xY'Golonac, 3xDeep One Rising

Events:
Cost 1: 2xGet it Off!
Cost 2: 2xBurrowing Beneath, 3xInside Information
Cost 3: 2xIn the Wake of the Sleeper

Support:
Cost 0: 3xSword of Y'ha-tallo
Cost 1: 1xShadowed Wood, 2xGhoul Taint, 3xAlter of the Blessed

So first observation is that you're running with quite a few neutral cards in addition to two factions, so I'd watch out for resourcing issues. If you haven't had a problem in the games you've played it may not be a big deal, but you'll want to keep an eye on it.

Next thing that grabs my attention is Mystic Bounty Hunter. Now maybe she's only there for her Investigation icon, but what stand out to me is that her sacrifice ability doesn't seem like it will be useful since you have only a few Attachment cards and they don't seem to be that strong or central to your strategy. Maybe it's worth looking at alternatives to her.

I've come to be not so much a fan of Young Deep One due to the zero skill. He can't make story progress himself, and he can't help other characters win or fend off a skill struggle. He's not automatically a bad choice because he does have nice icons, but keep an eye out and see if this is an issue for you or not.

I would suggest looking at putting Hungry Dark Young into the deck. With a nice selection of cost 1-2 characters in your deck, its ability to get cheap characters into play quicker seems like it would be worth having. It also help keep a domain open to pay for Y'Golonac's ability or an Event. In the "swarm and wound" theme, this will add significantly more "swarm".

You seem to be really stressing the Combat struggle in this deck, so the Keeper of the Golden Path looks a bit out of place to me. What's the reason for this choice? Is it just to have another 2-cost character?

What is the plan for Inside Information? It must be a significant card since it's the only Event with 3x copies.

Replying in order of bolding.

Didn't have much of a problem with neutrals (although they did almost screw me over once!) but since there are no loyal cards, I manage them. Will do a bit of cutting down in that regard.

You nailed it, will look out for an alternative. She actually helped my opponent more in the last game. Will find another char to replace her, probably HDY.

His zero skill is no problem thanks to Altar of the Blessed. He almost always (over 90% of the time) has 1-2 skill.

Hungry Dark Young will be added. I can't believe I missed him!

Keeper has been useful for me in almost all of the games I played. Be it his 3 skill or the two terror icons, but against the Miskatonic line-up I was facing, he was a life saver. Will try replacing him with some other character, maybe I will find out that he is not as good as I had thought.

Not really all that significant, but I found it useful to stop Investigations from happening. Come to think of it, I am trying to swarm, no need for that card. Only reason it was in there was to prevent getting raped by quick investigation decks.

Once again the input is very much appreciated!

Ah, I overlooked the Altar of the Blessed, somehow I thought it only applied to Shub characters. So then Young Deep One is not an issue.

Keeper is a good character, I was just saying that thematically he didn't seem to match since everyone else is a fighter and he isn't. But I have no objection to him being there because as you say he provides Terror and good skill (especially stacked w/ Altar of the Blessed).

If you wanted to tune the deck a bit more towards Deep Ones, you could think about putting in Shadowed Reef. Then most of your characters would have Terror icons.

Latest changes

3x MBH out - 3x HDY in.

3x Inside Information out - 1x Get it off!, Burrowing Beneath, Shadowed woods in.
