2 Champs and a Chump - Episode 38 - Here to Serve

By Dobbler, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

We review the upcoming chapter pack Here to Serve (thanks to spoilerage) in the latest episode.

Check it out here.

Props on the Night's Watch intro, pretty BA. :)

yea the intro was really cool. However I like it bettter when you do top five, bottom five when reviewing chapter packs. There is a lot more interesting discussion generated by you guys that way.

I think I prefer the "top 5 bottom 5 and a favorite by each host" like you did a few episodes ago... it allows you to comment on a few of the better cards but not include them in the top 5.

In response to how Galbart Glover interacts with searching decks and searching X cards from decks:

Originally, I thought as you initially stated: that Glover wouldn't be able to modify any effect that specifies a number of cards from the top of your deck; and this interpretation was backed by ktom in some thread on here somewhere (forget exactly where).

However, in an informal discussion with Nate French (I'm from MN, and Nate occasionally shows up to play cards with us Saturday nights at the FFG Event Center) he made the comment that the above interpretation was not what was intended and that, for the purposes of Galbart Glover, there is no difference between "search your deck" and "search the top X cards of your deck."

Again, this was an informal discussion and not an officially submitted rules question, but I'm fairly sure Glover will allow you to use any "Search the top X cards of your deck" to search your discard pile instead.

This perhaps should be something brought up in a future FAQ one way or the other.

If thats the case, Rickon Stark will likely go 3x into all Tully decks. This has come up several times in various posts, has anyone actually forwarded it and gotten an official answer?

Myself I like the card by card review better, because I think almost any card can serve a certain purpose. Also for newbies it is also interesting why a certain card IS mediocre despite seeming powerful at first glance.

That would be truly awesome

Thats the way I was using it. I guess I should wait a bit for confirmation though.

Huh. Here ktom claims that we have a ruling concerning Galbart that is the opposite of this. Maybe this should be adressed in the FAQ.

This should definitely be in the next FAQ. I would think that with the Prince's Plans out there that you should be able to search the top X of your discard pile as well, but that's just me.

Anyways, as far as the episode, I really like discussion about all the cards. There might be cards that I think are awesome in a pack that are glossed over, and I'm always wondering why someone else thinks they're simply mediocre.

I had an idea for a future episode - could you talk about the different deck archetypes (aggro, control, combo) and talk about how the most effective builds play out? It seems like the Time for Ravens cycle was good for Aggro, King's Landing was all about control, and the Oldtown cycle focuses on Combo. Aggro beats control, control beats combo, and combo beats aggro. Is that how the diagram works? Where are we now? Is combo really becoming king? Does this mean control is going to come back into Vogue? (I consider Martell Summer to be Aggro, and my understanding is that Wildlings were Aggro as well). How would each house deal with a combo focused Maester deck?

Just remember that it wasn't necessarily that something got stronger, but the dominant archtype could also have gotten weaker substantially.

Poor, non-capering Darryl... corazon_roto.gif

Great podcast gentlemen (and you too Darryl McBirthdayBoy.)

I really like the card by card evaluation as opposed to top 5, bottom 5. I'd rather get a detailed discussion of each new card as opposed to a smattering.

And DDFR? Where are the 2C1CLP officially licensed wristbands?

Answered in the new FAQ. I am happy.

Yeah, looks like the decided differently than what Nate had mentioned a few weeks ago. Nice to have it definitively answered one way or the other, certainly.
