Hi, this is my first post so I apologize in advance if this question has been answered or I break some social norm here. I was looking in the book and online, and could not find anywhere that the Null Rod's range is established.
Context: The Null Rod has an effect that makes many Psyker powers fail in its proximity, and also makes nearby Psykers accrue Insanity points if they are near an activated one for too long. However, nowhere in my reading did it say just what that proximity is. I'd rather not passively kill the party's Psyker, but if there was a way I could use it without unavoidably endangering him, I probably would.
Everywhere online that lists it refers back to a homebrew item on Dark Reign, which was created before Daemon Hunter was released. Does anyone have an answer to this question? Thanks in advance.
Null Rod [Daemon Hunter] Question
I'm searching the forums for this anwer myself. I've already decided to go with a 10m radius if I can't find something official.
I found a fan-made one that says 3 meters. As for me, I'd probably look up Untouchables in the books (Radical's Handbook, p.38 and Disciples of the Dark Gods, p.28). They each work marginally differently, but the effect is rather consistent, with their aura reaching out a number of meters equal to their WP bonus. I'd figure most people have WP around the 30's to 40's, so a 3-meter to 4-meter radius is still pretty accurate. It does seem weird that Daemon Hunter forgot to actually say the field's radius.
So yeah, I do not believe that there is an official answer, but I would guess, between the homebrewed rod, and the effect it is based off of, 3-4 meters is a good range, maybe 5, if you want to push it a bit beyond the norm. After that, it sort of stops feeling like a melee weapon. Also, as it destroys synapses, the bearer is probably the most at risk, regardless of the range, so one hopes that they rarely use it.
Black Crusade's null rod works within...2D10 metres. You should ask customer support about this.
So in Black Crusade it has a random area of effect? Huh. Do you roll each time it is activated?
Null Rods are described in a Rogue Trader book, too- I think it was Into The Storm . I don't have it handy to look up the Range though...

Officially, can't tell. Unofficially, hell no, that would be too randumb.
I looked up the description for the Null Rod ( RT book Into the Storm pg 125 ) ( AKA Gryphonne pattern Null Rod. Excerpted description follows.
For those who must face psykers without any psychic ability
of their own, a null rod is extremely useful. These strange
devices force any psykers within 10 meters to take all tests
to use any psychic powers at a –30 Penalty. They also offer
personal protection from psychic attacks by granting a
+30 bonus to resist any psychic power that directly affects
the bearer. Writhing with energies baneful to those who
channel powers from the Warp, a null rod contains such
furious force that it acts as a power weapon when used as a
club or truncheon.
Hope this helps
