Change to base design?

By UniversalHead, in Dust Tactics

A couple of things:

- I just got the gorillas and zombies and have noticed they've changed the base texture from the 'cracking ice' to 'steel grill'. I suppose this a precursor to Dust Warfare and moving on from just Arctic-based scenarios, but the steel grill seems a strange choice. I suppose I'll be going back to my usual 'sand drybrushed from dark grey up to white' look, though it's a pain to re-base my Premium figs. What are others doing with their bases?

- why, oh why, do the bases have those little knobs around the circumference? Anyone?

Cheers!

uhh did you get the Premium Zombies and Apes or the normal unpainted ones. My understanding was the "ice crackle" bases come with the Premium edition minis and the "metal grate" type base is what comes with the regular unpainted minis. That has been my experience thus far anyway.

Ahh, I see. This is the first time I haven't got Premium models. How strange to have different base designs, I wonder why they decided to do that?

One is painted the other one is not?

No, they have different modelling designs. Standard verision is a metal grill, while the premium is crackled ice.

And the mysterious knobs?

Bolts...just for the industrial steel effect. Like diamond plate on work vehicles. Cool factor.

I was disappointed in the crackled ice, tho. It's initially cool...but there's absolutely no depth to the texture so if you paint over it (because you paint the figure, for instance), crackled ice is gone. You can get the paint...but I just wish it had more depth to the crackly part.
