Competitive Play

By Meeks23, in 1. AGoT General Discussion

I'd just like to ask the community on how they run local tournaments. During the CCG days, we'd run tourneys by having each participant buy an unopened pack as his/her entrance fee. Players are then ranked depending on how they did well during the tourney, and ranking determined the order by which they can pick cards from the opened packs of the card pool each player bought for the tourney.

I was just wondering in these days in the LCG format, how do tournaments give incentives for participation and reward players.

Thanks.

That doesn't work so hot anymore (obviously) We sort of make our own prizes or use the FFG League Kit awards (They usally give power counters, pins, and other little things as awards).

Its not as cool as it was.

FFG NEEDS to come out with some foil, alternate art, and/or text-less versions of cards for prizes. Playmats, uncut sheets and plastic coins just don't cut it.

I like the playmats.

Not a big fan of just getting pins and "house cards" as prizes.

The playmats and power tokens have gone over well here, but it's the lack of variety that has killed playing in real events. We've mostly just become a group of casual players -- except as the big events get closer. I miss the days of real OP, but most of us aren't interested in pissing each other off for the same old prizes (by which I mean, we get pretty intense when we play in events; after the Hand of the King event we still have players who don't get along).

It's good to see some old timers still playing. gran_risa.gif

The community I used to play with has gone over to MTG, and I'm trying to revive the game in the shop we play in. We had our first AGoT game last Saturday and it was a blast! Still, some of the old folks are hesitant in investing in the LCG's as we played in the CCG era. Delving into the LCG's would be a rather large investment just for casual play. Having few straight reprints doesn't help either.
