New Ki Techniques

I created these techniques with the idea of a Chi Wizard. A Technition that has no attack or defense value but instead uses Ki techniques for everything in combat. I am not that familiar with Ki abilities so I was wondering if these are legal (officially).

Monastery of the Ki Veil and Barrage, 8 Techniques
The Ki Wizards use Ki for their offensive and defensive abilities, rather than skill in a specific type of combat. They normally use Tai Chi as a basis for their abilities. All the Monks who learn this tree create their own abilities as they learn to control their Ki better, but almost all of their abilities are based on the Defensive Veil and Offensive Barrage abilities.

Defensive Veil
Level 1 MK: 30
The character creates an aura around himself out of his Ki. This aura has a slight glow, the color dependant on the characters soul. When a damaging effect attempts to hit him his aura tugs at him, telling him where to go to get out of the way. With the aura guiding him he can Dodge with a predetermined defense of Absurd (180).
DEX 9 (maint 2), AGI 7 (maint 2)
Effect: Predetermined Defense 180, Maintained, Combinable
Type: Defense (Dodge)

Offensive Barrage
The character focuses his Ki in his extremities, making his movement quicker, his limbs moving almost on their own, following the forms from his training. This allows him to make a Predetermined Attack of Absurd (180) once a round.

DEX 9 (maint 2), AGI 7 (maint 2)
Effect: Predetermined Defense 180, Maintained, Combinable
Type: Offense

Shielding Veil
Level 1 MK: 40
By condensing his Defensive veil into a shield the character can defend an area around himself, protecting his allies from harm. This ability allows the character to defend anyone within his shield without penalty, and can block area attacks and attacks from multiple sources with ease. The shield uses the Final Defense Ability of the Defensive Veil.

Effect: Energy Shield 500LP, Regeneration 250, Area Block 15 feet, Combinable
Disadvantages: Maintained Technique (Defensive Veil)

Barrage of Disruption
The character makes an attack using his Offensive Barrage Final Attack, but targets the enemies Ki flow, causing them blindness and causing them an all action penalty. They must make a PhR check against both the blindness (failure indicates they are blind for 1 hour per 10 points of failure. If they fail by less than 10 they are blind for 1 minute per point of failure) and the all action penalty (They receive an all action penalty equal to the level of failure, the penalty decreases by 5 every round.)

Improved Defensive Veil
Level 2 MK:85
The character creates a thick aura around himself out of his Ki. This aura has a significant glow, the color dependant on the characters soul. When a damaging effect attempts to hit him his aura tugs at him, telling him where to go to get out of the way. With the aura guiding him he can Dodge with a predetermined defense of Inhuman (320).
DEX 14 (maint 4) AGI 12 (maint. 4) WP 12 (maint. 2)
Effect: Predetermined Defense 280, Maintained, Decrease Ki cost 1, Combinable
Type: Defense (Dodge)
Special* For the purpose of other techniques this technique can count as Defensive Veil. For example Shielding Veil can be used with this and would have a Final Defense Ability of 320 when this is used.

Improved Offensive Barrage
Level 2 MK:85
The character focuses his Ki in his extremities, making his movement quicker, his limbs moving almost on their own, following the forms from his training. The characters limbs glow, the color is determined by his soul. This allows him to make a Predetermined Attack of Inhuman (320) once a round.

Effect: Predetermined Offense 280, Maintained, Decrease Ki cost 1, Combinable
Type: Offense
Special* For the purpose of other techniques this technique can count as Offensive Barrage. For example Barrage of Disruption can be used with this, and would have a Final Attack Ability of 320 when this is used.

Improved Shielding Veil
Level 2 MK: 75
By condensing his Defensive veil into a shield the character can defend an area around himself, protecting his allies from harm. This ability allows the character to defend anyone within his shield without penalty, and can block area attacks and attacks from multiple sources with ease. The shield uses the Final Defense Ability of the Improved Defensive Veil. Shielding Veil is a prerequisite to this ability.

Destructive Barrage

By increasing the Ki in his extremities, building up until it has nowhere to go but out, the character shoots out a destructive blast of Ki energy.

Effect: Impact 16, Long Distance Attack 60’, Energy Damaging Attack, Decrease Ki Cost 2, Combinable
Disadvantages: Maintained Technique (Offensive Barrage)
Type: offense

looks good to me, its minimalistic but that leaves room for more techniques. i might use this if you don't mind.

Thats fine. It was made for proof of concept, the characters with this style would have many more techniques, the Defensive Veil and Offensive Barrage are all that is needed for any more techniques.

Destructive Barrage
Level 2 MK: 70
By increasing the Ki in his extremities, building up until it has nowhere to go but out, the character shoots out a destructive blast of Ki energy.
STR 10, WP 10, POW 7,
Effect: Impact 16, Long Distance Attack 60’, Energy Damaging Attack, Decrease Ki Cost 2, Combinable
Disadvantages: Maintained Technique (Offensive Barrage)

I am still getting use to the mechanics of Anima [big D20 & Palladium/Rifts Fan].

My question is, how much damage does the above technique do?

Weapon damage. If you are using a dagger 30+STR, if you are using Tai Chi (advanced) 20+(2*POW). The technique does not produce damage per se, it deals your normal damage at range (and produces impact to shoot them back away from you).

So with "Offensive Barrage" is a required Maintained technique, then the predetermined attack ability of "320" will also help [potentially] increase the final damage. Am I understanding this correctly?

Yes. Without the predetermined attack of 320 you would have a roll of 1d100+attack ability and this technique tree is designed to be used with characters who put no DP into attack abilities, so they have 15-20 attack at level 5.

As it turns out these are not legal. This is because;

Defensive Veil
Level 1 MK: 30

Only works once in a combat round. Thus if your attacked twice or more your pretty much screwed. There are a few ways to solve this,

1 - Legal Way - Force them to take;

Absorbing Veil
Level 1 MK: 30
The character creates an aura around himself out of his Ki. This aura has a slight glow, the color dependant on the characters soul. The aura creates LP barrier between the user and any damaging effect.
CON 7 (maint 2), WP 7 (maint 2), POW 6 (maint 2)
Effect: Damage Resistance 600LP with regenerate 250HP/round, Maintained
Type: Defense
Frequency: Turn

as their primary defense.

2 - HOUSERULE - broken version - allow Defensive Veil to work against all attacks.

To make this - less broken version - make them take the penalty for multiple defenses (aka 180 first defense, 150 second, 130 third, 110 fourth, 90 all the rest).

3 - HOUSERULE - Allow Defensive Veil to have the Additional Defense ability added to it. Thus allowing them to defend at their maximum power a number of times equal to one plus what they buy, but if they are attacked more than that they have no defense, for example;

Defensive Veil
Level 1 MK: 30

would allow them to dodge 4 times at 180 defense, after that they are SOL.

4 - HOUSERULE - Double the Ki cost and Defensive Veil to work against all attacks. It would then look like this,

Defensive Veil
Level 1 MK: 30

This would allow you to defend yourself with a 180 dodge against every attack.

Of course you could also not like these, just thought I would make suggestions, if you liked the idea.

i wish i had DE with me right now, because i think it has a new ki technique component that allows for consecutive augmented defences (in fact, that may be what it is called) so if you could get a hold of DE's ki tech components you may be able to legally patch it up.

That would be the third HOUSERULE, officially that ability can only be used in combination with Frequency: Turn abilities. Because Predetermined Defense is Frequency Action it can not work with it in the official rules. But you can HOUSERULE that it is legal.

(if your wondering I capitalize HOUSERULE so people do not complain that I am not using the official rules, yes it has happened even when I said it was a homebrew rule.)
