Intimidate

By Mortem_Angelis, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

I wanted to verify that my friends and i are playing Intimidate correctly. Intimidate says: Characters with lower strength then the character with intimidate don't count their str when defending. If a player declares one defender and the defender does not count its str when defending because of intimidate he has a defending str of 0 is that a unopposed challenge? We have been playing it as a opposed challenge because he did oppose it with a player? and then i just read in the rules about unopposed that a unopposed challenge is when the attacker wins a challenge and the defender has total str of 0 (or no defending characters) Which I'm sure just answered my question but i wanted to ask you guys to make sure that is correct because i remember i read something on here that made me think otherwise (i just cant remember what that was).

Thanks,

You're right. When determining if a challenge is unopposed, you only look at the total STR of the defending player. If his STR is zero, the challenge is considered unopposed. The number of defending characters doesn't matter. Please note that those defending characters whose STR doesn't count because of Intimidate still are considered participating characters for all other intents and purposes. They still count for Deadly, Renown etc., and they can be targeted by effects that target participating characters.

Correction: While a character with the “Intimidate” keyword is attacking, characters with a lower STR than that character do not count their STR for that challenge. This includes other attacking characters.

So what you are saying is if i attack with a 3str intimidate and a 2 str non intimidate character the 2 str char would not count its str in the challange. that is very nice to know i love when i get answers to question i didn't even think to ask. Thanks Saturnine.

Indeed. However, you can still use a low-strength character for their Stealth or Deadly, even if they don't count their strength.

And just to be clear, even if that 2 str character had intimidate as well, it still would not count its strength in the challenge. Intimidate is a double-edged sword. Sometimes it can be more of a drawback than a strength.
