Open Questions - Compiling a new FAQ - Open Letter to FFG

By grenzmord, in Tannhauser

Generally I am very happy with the product support Tannhäuser is receiving these days, but the online support could be improved.

Several topics include open questions right now and it seems like we are not getting official responses.

I think we should gather all these questions here and send them to FFG in a little while, also referencing this topic, to show our interest in official answers.

Additionally we should gather all the questions that have been answeared so far, that should really be part of the FAQ (like Mask of Samhein not wearable by characters with a mental value of -).

I guess I'll keep this Topic running for two Weeks and then compile a Letter to FFG, does that sound OK to everyone?

( And while we are at it we could demand a reprint of Yula, even though I'm one of the lucky ones who owns her. )

I would gladly make use of an updated FAQ wether it's official or fan-compiled. However I'm not sure your letter will get a positive, or any answer at all. I've asked three different questions (not just rules) using FFG form between last July and now and still have no answers on oany of them.

I am sadly aware of the lack of replies :/

That why I am trying to start raise the bar a bit with this topic, trying won't hurt, right?

And if there is no official reaction I'll compile the FAQ myself.

Here's my advice: make them both now. start a new thread to compile the already known official answer and add them in a new FAQ. You could also add some of the "common sense" community rulings discussed on these boards. Keep this thread separated and use it to list all unanswered questions.

I support any attempt to improve Tannhauser .... go to it guys!

Good idea, though we've tried it before... twice! But hey, maybe the third time's the charm, right? =)

Anyway, here are the older "compilation" threads, which maybe useful starting points:

Also, I'm not sure if its really better to submit all the questions at once. I tried that back when I started the second thread above but never got a response for any of the questions. I even quoted the relevant rules from the book and included page numbers to make it easier for FFG but it all turned out to be a major waste of time since I never heard back even though I used their official page for rules questions. So yeah, maybe a few questions at a time will get a better response. Oh wait, just read Plageman's comment about how he never received answers to his questions either...

Well, maybe we will see more responses now because FFG wants to keep the fans happy so we will buy all their new releases? =P

Excuse me, is there moderator of forum? I think the moderator has a preferential channel to talk with FFG, I hope that. So, we could send an email to him (singed by all registered on forum about Tannhauser) asking the motivation about lack of answers by FFG since june.

Do you know if other FFG's forums have the same problem?

They are the moderators: 433, ffgjaffer, ffgjosh, ffgMark, Gecko, Inquisitor Ares, The Spaniard, they are not only moderator but they're FFG Staff too.

We can try to send a PM or an e-mail to them.

I imagine it varies by game and probably depends on various factors such as the "team" behind the game and the game's complexity. The problem certainly is not limited to Tannhauser though. Descent had similar problems with infrequent FAQ updates as well as inconsistent answers which ultimately lead to a subforum created just for the discussion of unresolved rules questions. The fans even created a Google group to further discuss the questions and to write up backgrounds and possible solutions to each question in an attempt to make it easier on FFG. They then submitted all their work: 77 Unresolved Questions! Now that FFG has announced a 2nd Edition for Descent, I'm not sure we'll ever see answers to those questions...

On the other hand, some of their games such as Dust Tactics seem to enjoy more timely updates. Of course, FFG wants to run tournaments with Dust, so clear rules are sort of mandatory there.

QFT. It loks like the LCG and tournament oriented games get the most rapide cycle of FAQ update, classic board games have only an infrequent update.

Back when Take On You was publishing the game, they worked closely with the fans and usually answered rules questions on the forum. But since they didn't have enough time to compile a FAQ of their own, it was compiled by fans (including yours truly) and submitted for approval.

However I think that an "unofficial" FAQ update would still be of help even if some are just "common sense" answer...
