"RE" Priming Dust Tactics Miniatures?

By Methos, in Dust Tactics

Hey gang!

I was just curious if anyone has tried re-primering the Dust Tactics miniatures with any success - i.e., not losing any detail after the process.

Reason why I ask is I like working with a black undercoat for a majority of my color schemes - and both the olive and grey primer colors that are offered out of the box do not give me the darker undertones that I would like to achieve with a black undercoat.

So I'd love to hear if anyone has indeed re-primered their minis and if it did not obscure any of the detail in doing so.

Thanks!

I always use white primer (just my preference) but I have been very happy with the results.

I have used white and black primer for base coats with no problem. Just try it out on one or two units and see if you like it.

I use a thinner coat of white or black depending on what color I am painting over top of it. My advice is to use a primer which is thinned 20%.

I undercoat with straight car primer (black) then fill in the gaps with the airbrush and 50/50 tamiya black, then of course there are the base coat layers on top of that, not lost any detail yet so you should be fine!

After playing the game a bunch, and then trying to paint the minis without re-primering, has anyone had trouble with paint not sticking due to the figs having oil residue from people's hands?

Skin oils are water soluble, and won't interfere with paint sticking.

If someone is handling miniatures with other stuff on their hands sufficient to coat someone's miniatures, they need to get a clue and treat stuff with a little batter care.
