Bravester paints his Dust Tactics! A P(ainting)log

By Bravester, in Dust Tactics

I decided it was high time I stopped cluttering up the forum with threads containing one or two models, and so I am going to be using this thread as a repository for all my Dust Tactics painting progress!

Anyways, on to the pictures!

First up, we have a unit of Axis zombies, which are finished, expect for the fact that they still need snow applied to their bases. I expect to have them done tomorrow.

VERY work in progress Heavy Flak Grenadiers...I am loving these guys by the way, they really pack a punch on the battlefield!

And both the light walkers from the revised core set. These guys, along with my Ludwig and Pounder, will be done this coming Monday, or Tuesday, at the latest! I could finish them up today, but I am holding off until Monday, as I am expecting an order of weathering supplies then. I really like the design of both of these guys, the Hans especially.

And of course, I still have all the Armor 2 infantry to paint, from the Revised Core set AND the old Core Set. I dunno why, but the Armor 2 infantry, the Allied ones especially, really bore me to death...Too much of the same thing, I guess, as the Allied models have SO MUCH cloth on them. Still, I will buckle myself down sometime, and get them all done!

Comments and criticism welcome!

All the models look great. I really love the tank walker, the rust and weathering really look great. Keep up the good work!

Cool work, dude...I love the dirtiness of it...good realism in the works. Tho I'm not sure what the one Heavy Flak Grenadier is aiming at, maybe an ant? LOL. Where'd those guys come from? I don't remember seeing them in the line-up.

Looking forward to more.

Thanks! The Flak Grenadiers come with the Revised Core set, and yeah, that one guys has a terrible pose...I think he was supposed to be running, but he ended up looking like he is either tripping,or, as you said, shooting at an ant!

Soo, it has been 3 days since I said I would post some updates for you all. Well, a cold I had had came back with a vengeance, PLUS, I had commissions calling my name, plus I now have tons of schoolwork piled up from when I was sick, so I have not been able to do much

But anyways, here are pictures!

Finished the Zombies! Really happy with these ones!

The Axis, sadly, does not provide a dental care plan for their undead units...

Markus! The picture is really bad, I could not get his face in focus...He, as well as OZZ 117, an observer squad, and a Sniper squad, were done on commission.

Aaand, on to the work in progress shots!

First up, here is my Ludwig. All the sponge damage is done, now I just need to add rust and grim and then some snow on his base!

LUDWIG-WIP.jpg

And here are my Laser Grenadiers, still needing work. These were done a while ago, but I became unhappy with the color scheme...In case you are wondering, the gloves were off-white, the goggles were red, and the guns had black muzzels with hazard striping. ICKY.

My Sturmpionere...still very WIP, obviously.

Oh, and if you guys are wondering why the Blackhawk/Hans are not in this update: I sealed them, but the sealer fogged up, so I have had to go back in and redo EVERYTHING. One upside, though: I did realize a way to make them look better, so expect them to look a bit different from the last update!

Comments are, as always, really appreciated!

Cheers!

What color paint/technique do you use to do the rust weathering on the walkers?

I tried to do something similar with a household sponge and some brown paint, but I think the pores on it were way too big. Came out looking like crap. Really like your effect, so would like to copy. :-)

Yeah, I am not surprised the household sponge didn't work, the pores are much too large. I used the kind of sponge you find in blister packs of metal miniatures, and I also you the kind of foam used for foam pads in beds/carseats. Then I just dunked it in black paint for the first layer of weathering, Citadel Scorched Brown paint for the second layer, then a mix of 3/4 Scorched Brown and 1/4 Citadel Blazing Orange, for the final, and lightest, layer of weathering.

Hope that helps!

Thanks, I'll give that a try. I wonder where I can find blister pack foam, since i only have Dust stuff. Maybe I can go beg the people at the GW store near me to let me dig through their trash...
