Questions about Toadify + Encounters

By iceberg84, in Talisman

Hi,

I apologize if this information is readily available elsewhere(the rules, other threads etc...) but I have a question I'd like to ask the experts.

Player A moves and lands on a space with Player B. He then attacks Player B, Player B casts toadify. Player A drops all his gear and it's Player A's turn still. Can Player B pick up any of Player A's items?

I think the answer is no, it has to be on Player B's turn and he has to land on that space on a separate turn. So on Player B's turn, he would have to leave that space and come back to it to pick up Player A's items, right?

But during that same turn in which toadify is cast, battle still ensues, right? So Player B would presumably win but would not be able to take any items from the toad Player A since he would have none, so that player would be forced to lose a life, right?

Let's say that it's Player B's turn instead and he moves onto a space with Player A and casts toadify. After they fight, can Player B loot the space? Or only on a separate turn again?

I think the answer is the same and that Player B still needs to wait until a third turn (after moving away and then back to the space) but I just want to confirm. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

You know there's a section for Rules Questions? - http://www.fantasyflightgames.com/edge_foros_temas.asp?efid=129&efcid=1

- To the question: You are right, it doesn't matter if Player A or B engages, since they both decided to encounter the character and not the space (objects are on the space after Toadify) - so the battle takes place; of course, the toad will win this, right?!^^

[-> Thing here is, as always, you can't encounter a character AND the space he/she's standing on - you have to pick either one or the other.]

And if the other Player wants to get whatever was dropped there, he/she has to move away next turn and try to land there again - so, like I said before, you guessed right.

There might be an answer elsewhere but it will be difficult to find in the forums. The Rules give you answers to these questions, though.

Next time, please use the "Rules questions" section to ask, as Shifting Spirit suggests (by the way, he already answered).

Correct. Items are dropped immediately and cannot be encountered, since Character B is not encountering the space. If he presumably wins combat, he can claim a reward. From a Toad, the only reward you can get is "take a Life".

Correct again. Character B moved onto a space with Character A and decided to encounter the Character and not the space. When Character A is toad-ed and drops his items, Character B is in the "engage in battle" phase, since this is Toadify Spell casting condition. He cannot change is mind and encounter the space and the items on it, but he has to go on fighting the Toad. He has to land on the same space during a following Turn to take the goodies.

In the meantime, the race for the dropped items may have already begun and ended in favour of another Character!

Great! Thanks a lot for the detailed answers! I'll make sure to avoid posting redundant questions next time. :)
