Magnus Arcanis,
That's very interesting (even though it turns out to do the same thing). I'll be watching this thread to see what everyone else has to say about using disrupts vs passive triggered effects.

However, that said. I think you can sacrifice the Artist in an ATTEMPT to disrupt CP. I say attempt because Chess Prodigy has a triggered effect so you can attempt to negate it.
The main difference between a passive ability and a forced response is that a passive effect
cannot
be canceled.
I probably wasn't clear on my comment about the green boxes. What I meant was that Actions are limited to green boxes, but Responses , Forced Responses and Disrupts can happen in any box.
Regarding Chess Prodigy and Performance Artist, I'm not positive, but I agree with JHaelen. Since the FAQ tells us that a passive effect cannot be cancelled, I think you could not stop Chess Prodigy's ability.
We also have the entry under the timing of Chess Prodigy that says Once an effect has been initiated it must be resolved (unless it is a triggered effect that has been cancelled by a Disrupt ) . And since All triggered effects begin with a bold word denoting what kind of triggered effect they are... , passive abilities are never triggered effects.

(v1.4) Passive Effects
Passive effects are ongoing effects that
are not optional, unless otherwise stated.
Passive effects and abilities do not
have a trigger such as Action:, Forced
Response:, Response:, or Disrupt:.
Some passive effects have a specific time
that their effect will initiate, this should
NOT be confused with them being
triggered effects.
In other words: Passive effects can have a 'trigger' (as in 'a specific time that their effect will initiate'), but that doesn't make them 'triggered effects' (as in the defined term for
Action
,
Forced Response
,
Response
, or
Disrupt
)
This seems to be a good point to pick some of my own thoughts about these lately topics. Especially Chess Prodigy -case. I have been lately wondering about how do you handle passive effects and Responses. If they all happen in the same phase, do you resolve them as you like as a active player, or do you have to follow some pattern to resolve those. Lets have a this kind of situation:
I have Chess Prodigy and Ali Kafur with Rabbit's Foot committed in the same story. As now I have one passive effect (Chess Prodigy) and 2 Responses to handle here. So can I first use Ali Kafur's own Response (If committed to the story, draw one card), then use Rabbit's Foot (Response: After attached character commits to a story, reveal the top card of your deck, then put that card into your hand. If the revealed card was a character card, struggles do not resolve at that story this phase) and last use Chess Prodigy to fix one of the struggle to be resolved with Investication icons?
Or is there just some time-window where you have to resolve those? I have been thinking about this case, that you can do them as you like. But if I have been wrong about this, please correct me.
The FAQ actually has a section on this:
The order of precedence of when an effect takes place, assuming all conditions are met simultaneously, is as follows:
1. Disrupt effects
2. Passive effects
3. Forced Response effects
4. Response effects
Disrupt effects can interrupt the resolution of any of the above effects if their conditions have been met, and will resolve completely before the effect they have interrupted does.
Crap. Should have seen that coming
But thanks Prof! I bet if we have this kind of cases here, there will come much more answers to the new people to find out how the game really works. Its not so bad idea to have different kind of cases to talk about. Mostly I just check from here if something new comes and little bit still study this game. So all news are good news to me

But my point remains. Responses cannot happen in any box. They can only be used in the same boxes that Actions can be used.
Knew I was wrong about PA vs CP. Right about the unable to negate the effect though.
Has anyone here tried recording a live match and uploading it to youtube? That is , you guys should record an entire match so that all new players can properly see the timing of event cards and such. I was thinking that each time a Card was played or turn made , a subtitle or index should state what the player is doing and what phase he is on.
I my self would do it but I am at a lack of opponents to play with , and my partner who was going in with me in this game hasn't had time to play so...
Yea a recorded match would be an excellent knowledge source, given that their is indicators per phase and plays.
Thanks everyone who helped answer my questions.

If we can squeeze it in, suppose we can try at Oakmont CoC meeting #3!
In the meantime is it worth it to just simply expand my previous flow chart thingy to cover every possible interaction at any time, ever?
And it get stickied somewhere... or perhaps as an article or something?
I bet I would be suprised at the number of people who "didn't quite get it." When they read things on their own.
And yes, I'm well aware I was a new player once too. In fact to this day I will claim that I have never read the rule book from cover to cover and have simply used people's explanations to gain my knowledge. Yet, I still bet that I would be surpised as I assumed that (until now) that if you read the rulebook that you would pretty much understand how things worked minus a few things here and there.
Unfortuneately, I take to card games like a fish does to water so I can't immediately recognize how easy or hard something like this is to pick up. (which is why I have soo many playtesters for my own designs with a wide range of gaming experience so I can get things to a point where everyone should be able to understand).
To make a long point shorter (but really longer). Would/will text ever be enough, for a game like this, for the vast majority of people to understand or is a video/live demo of a game a neccessity? Obvioulsy it would help, but I wonder if it a neccessity for a game of this level.
What ever is possible will be fine , I myself found out that I seem to extract more info from visual guides such as the official Fantasy Flight Demonstration. Since that was only half a match though some things were kept outside but yea. Getting a flowchart stickied would be nice.
Good luck on the CoC #3 meeting.
Sorry I haven't had time to browse the forum so much , I've been sort of busy with University stuff. I'll give the rule book a re-read xD and hope I can teach my friends how to play so I can get a bigger opponent base 8D.
I had forgotten that colormage1 had posted a really nice flow chart some time back , I'll be printing this version soon after i get his permission of course.
Thanks again.
