Silly question about influence

By Jaquen, in 2. AGoT Rules Discussion

This is a really silly question, but I can't find nothing to answer to it neither in FAQ or Coreset Rules.

I have Advisor to the Crown in play, can I kneel it for his influence without playing a card that needs influence?

Thank you!

Of course not. You only kneel Influence as the cost of an effect. If there's no effect, you can't pay the cost for one, right?

I think the main issue here is the understanding of influence (and indeed resources in general) in AGoT.

Unlike games like Magic, there is no such thing as a personal resource pool in AGoT (gold pool excepted). Since there is no "influence pool", you cannot generate influence in anticipation of effects. Kneeling influence to pay for effects or as part of an effect is not the same as paying gold to marshall cards into play, but more akin to kneeling a Noble character to pay the cost of Death by Payne or kneeling characters to pay for Lethal Counterattack.

Essentially, without a card or effect telling you to kneel influence, you cannot do so.
